Got to share for opioid withdrawal help in uk

They're actually really nice taken once in a while. Kinda like an extra special cuppa coffee of a morn - just gives you a nice lift and perks you up a treat. It's the becoming addicted to them part that's a bitch - above and beyond any other opioid-type drug I've ever taken.

OH i no the becoming addicted part very well lol..if im honest once today i thought bout oxys..:( but i just talked to myself lol. (must be losing it)..as im on day 9 !!!;) of wd never come this far..so not going back..so instead i bathed my parrots lol.it worked and i soon stopped thinking i wanted one..i did take another gabapentin and then soon i was little floaty and again didnt want the oxys.. I ANIT GOING BACK.....

I know this thread is about how to make opiate withdrawal much more manageable.

So I have two points.

Firstly with regards to having a manageable cluck then for me switching onto bupe and doing a reduction on that down to the smallest amount possible is the easiest way to get clean. Plus a few diaz.

Secondly if you could help me out with the next step, staying clean, then I will forever be in your debt.

Nothing useful to add to the actual thread but until last week I always thought your name was owen_owen rather than omen_owen. The realisation shocked me. To be fair, they do look very similar though.

=D I used to dj under that name when I was a kid (not the mk2 though, that was just because II lost the keys to the first account). Wish I could change it now.

Shambles: There is absolutely zero question about the fact there is something very strange going on regarding the new-wave GABAergic drugs on opiate withdrawal. You can be in full blown heavy wd and 600mg of pregabalin will make you almost completely fine for 8 hours. Very bizarre indeed, and the detox process seems to continue happening whilst you use them, rather than it just putting it off. There's certainly something interesting going on that I suspect Pfizer have at least some understanding of, there have been a few low level university research pieces in to the effects of pregabalin on the subjective experience of opiate withdrawal. As to why they're not making a move to press for it's licensing as an opiate withdrawal drug whilst they still have patent I don't know because it is without a doubt extremely effective in controlling symptoms.

With my :sus: hat on I'd say they must surely have picked up on this effect if it truly exists and it will be much more profitable in the longterm to wait until the patent is about to run out, tweak the molecule in the tiniest conceivable manner then get a fresh patent for it to be used as an opioid w/d med.

This thread has perked my interest though and will discuss it with my drug counsellors when appropriate.

Well yeah that's a consideration, it seems like a risky tactic when there use is pretty common knowledge (certainly among the opiate using community) though. Leaves a lot of opportunity for someone else to jump in there before them.

Good luck getting any more knowledge out of your drug counsellor than google.

To be honest I was thinking more in terms of raising their awareness than the likelihood of them raising mine. I know the prescribing consultant here is majorly anti-benzo (was a condition of my last subbiez script that I'd end my benzo scripts (both of 'em :!)) and given the medical community seem a bit more willing to prescribe these new not-benzos it may be an option that could be useful for people - especially those with concurrent large benzo habits who'd really struggle with any form of crash taper as seems to be expected of them here.

Also, the more reports that drug services get of the apparent efficacy of these drugs for w/d the more chance they'll become used for that situation and maybe eventually that information will make it up the chain and it could become a recognised treatment. If it's as good as some have suggested it's pretty damn big news. Near-elimination of even major opioid w/d symptoms without extended tapering and additional benzo support? DSPs would kill for a drug like that even if it is still a bit pricey I'd think.

Probably true. None of my prescribing docs, including the psychiatrist who first gave me my pregabalin years ago, could tell me anything on how it works or even knew what it was, until I saw a neurologist for an unrelated problem. The 75mg caps seem to be fairly common for nerve pain here (netherlands), not so much as anti-anxiety.

or Sweden:

A total of 18,626 patients (mean age 55 years, 63% women) were initiated on treatment between July 2006 and December 2009. Approved indications were recorded for 40% of the patients: epilepsy 1.3%, neuropathic pain 35.5% and generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) 3.6%.

I'm on Gabapentin for joint pain and it's helped a great deal - I'm actually hoping to rely on it alone for my pain instead of it and Codeine as I am at present.
But I know that Pregabalin would do a better job of it. But when I asked my GP years ago about it she did say that I would have to see a Psychiatrist to be prescribed it but having the horrible experience of my last "Psychiatrist" (brilliant as one if creating juddering wrecks who commit suicide is what one is) I declined.

I will try again, but yeah as stated above it's prescribed rarely and usually purely for diagnosed nerve damage and the pain associated with that.
It's a shame: It's a fantastic and rather mysterious substance!

hi all
Well im still going strong dont get me wrong some days its been a fight in my head not to reach out and put precrip in. :( but id say hang on see how i feel tomorrow and hoepfully my mind as changed..
ive tried days where i didnt have gab and ill tell you guys i felt like poo.. (dont know if i cud say that but seemed better word than s**t lol )..i felt like i was on first day of wd..so i think its defo not a short fix else u feel like ur back at third day even though i was weeks into wd... so heres my question the amount i was on (oxy ) how long does it take to come out of system?

As ive said before i dont know the why or hows that gab works i just know it does and in looking on net if i have to stay on it years i will do and i hope to god the oxy well out my system then.

I have suspected pregabalin of dragging out codeine withdrawal before when I have hit it hard (maximum dosages of pregabalin), perhaps that kind of decrease in glutamate levels slows recovery. Try to use the gabapentin as little as possible. Small doses and space them out.

hi all
Well im still going strong

Great to hear :)

As for how long oxy stays in your system, the half-life is around 4 hours so you should be able to work it out easily enough. I'd be fairly sure it's long clear of your system by now but there's more to w/d than simply getting rid of every trace of the opies. The psychological side tends to last a lot longer and can in some cases be exacerbated by PAWS. Gabapentin is itself addictive and produces w/d symptoms so it's also quite possible it's actually gabapentin w/d you are experiencing on the days you try to go without. Given the opiate w/d should be long passed by now it may be worth considering trying to taper the gabapentin rather than just stopping it cold turkey.

Congrats on getting this far - that was one helluva habit to come off of - and best of luck with the rest of the process :)<3
