Most people have this wrong. Studies, common sense and my personal experience have shown that, on the contrary, you should always EAT something before going to bed (like 30 min before).
Most of the body reconstruction takes place during the night, and guess what? Well you need food for this. Eating at 6pm and then at 7am the next day is ridiculous, you are starving your body for 12 hours or more and THIS is how you will slow down your metabolism and play yo-yo with your weight, energy and blood-sugar levels.
I wake up way more energized if I ate something before bed. Not 3 hours before, not 2 hours before, but 30min to an hour.
Simple common sense... Everyone I know who have problems waking up in the morning and need hours just to feel ok and alert eat 3 times a day, and almost nothing after supper. I have yet to see an obese person who eats clean, small meals during the day. Sugary breakfast with coffee, then crash before dinner, then Huge and saturated fatty dinner, then get sleepy in the afternoon, then supper and then fasting for 12 hours.
How absurd... Why do you think everyone is getting fat? We don't know what to eat anymore, and we especially don't know HOW to eat it and WHEN.
HOWEVER.
People who have digestion problem if they eat before sleep do because they eat crap or misplaced meals.
Yes, excessive carbs will be stored to fat if you don't use them, so fruits, juice, chips, whatever are bad for you after supper.
Try to get a low dose of complex carbs as well as a moderate portion of good proteins and GOOD fats. Olive oil and fish oil before bed will do wonder for you body and head and will help you to actually LOSE weight.
All trainers and nutritionists will tell you the same thing. We need to stop the 3 meals a day non-sense. Too big portions and unbalanced meals play havok on blood sugar and digestion. 5-6 smaller meals are the way to go, for everyone, even if you don't exercise.
This way your body is constantly feeding itself and will not go in "hunger mode" - catabolic, blood sugar levels are constant and you will feel much better.
Just try it. Eat smaller meals, eat ALL the time before bed (good proteins and good fats), and in a week you'll have lost weight and will feel much better, with none of this "nightmares" and "gaining weight" nonsense.
Or eat big meals and crap after supper and gain fat and sleep bad.
Or starve yourself and limit the reconstruction of your body, muscle and tissue growth, and fuck up your metabolism and blood sugar (diabetes, here I come!)
Your choice.
