Gluthatione depletion by cinnamon bark might eliminate MDMA toxicity

Somehow I don't think eating cinnamon is going to cure, prevent, or reverse liver damage.

Thanks for the reply but I was primarily thinking about possible neurotoxicity caused by glutathione conjugates.

Likewise - a spice that has been used for thousands of years I don't think will turn up neurotoxic now. Why do you get that cinnamon causes these things when it;s talking about MDMA exposure?

I think the idea is that the liver converts MDMA into a toxic glutathione conjugate, while the cinnamon bark will deplete glutathione in a non toxic way to prevent that conjugation. Though I'm not really familiar with the MDMA/glutathione theory so I don't really know if there's anything to it. If it really does prevent hyperthermia that's pretty promising though.

Well, I'm sure it could help that aspect of it hypothetically, but not having any gluthatione could make the other damage worse?

Sek, he's not saying that cinnamon is neurotoxic, he's saying it'll prevent mdma from metabolizing to a neurotoxic metabolite. Doubtful, I suspect most damage is caused by having so much monoamines released at once

If "culinary amounts" of a majorly popular spice depleted one of the major antioxidant chemicals in the brain that much it would probably be toxic. Let's remember that kids these days do the "cinammon challenge" and end up with just irritated throats and noses, not major oxidative damage a la paracetamol overdoses.
