Giving Up On Squats

Yeah I mean, how do I put it crudely... if you want a sweet dude ass then the bike just won't cut it. lol

For abs I found when I started taking higher dose fish oil (I do 5-10 g/day) I saw a new layer of ab I couldn't get to previously after lifting seriously and doing situps galore for a few years, without changing my routine. That was 5 years ago and my diet wasn't that great but the effect was very noticeable. You might try upping the dose on that, just make sure it is a good quality supplement so it doesn't mess up your stomach or anything.

I'd definitely be using a belt for squats too if I was you. I used to not belt either, then I started hurting my back, now I always use a belt when I squat >135. I never use it for deads or anything else though because it messes with my form.

I think if you use the belt for squats you might actually like it. The belt does a few fun things. First, you can progressively put it on tighter and tighter which in itself makes you better a vacuum posing, and strengthens your abs when you lift because once you get it supertight your muscles are forced to push out against it.

Also when you get the belt supertight (as in you have to suck your stomach in as much as you can to fasten it that tight) it will make you sweat more when you lift. I like to do deep squats especially at 10-20 reps lower weight near the end of a squat workout with the belt as tight as possible.

Plus yeah there's the whole protect your back thing it provides... trust me if you think an infection is bad, wait until you throw your back out and have to go to work with an ice pack strapped to your back just so you can work standing for an hour or two without insane pain.
