ginkgo biloba causes cancer

uh, raw ? you ate the nuts or the leaves ? either way, eating it raw any of those will cause poisoning in various ways. you must be trolling....

the study is done on the extract of leaves, the ones used supplementally, you clown

I call BS on this.

Here is the original study that the watchdog based their findings on:

Page 27 said:
Groups of 10 male and 10 female rats and mice received Ginkgo biloba extract in corn oil by gavage at doses of 0, 62.5 (rats only), 125, 250, 500, 1,000, or 2,000 (mice only) mg/kg 5 days per week for 14 weeks.

According to Mayo Clinic regarding adult human dosages of Ginkgo:
40-240mg of extract, tincture, or powder has been taken by mouth daily, divided into two or three doses.

Some of the rats in the experiment were given this regimen for 114 weeks.

At those levels, the rats were receiving way higher the equivalent dose than any human would ever take, beyond the recommended period for human consumption.

There is also the matter of the corn oil itself. This study did not indicate that it used non-GMO corn oil. Recently the EU banned GMO corn because it was shown to cause cancerous golf-ball sized tumors in rats that were fed it for life, especially thyroid and liver tumors. In this ginkgo study, the rats were fed the herb prepared in corn oil to amounts that no human would equivalently consume.

Honestly, I don't know how this shit qualifies as real science. It reminds me of when governments banned the sale of comfrey claiming the pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) within it caused hepatic veno-occlusive disease and liver cancer, on the basis of a study which involved concentrating the PAs to 400 times the strength in actual comfrey, and injecting rats with it. Just like that, a herb safely used for hundreds of years, banned.

IMO these trumped up studies are meant to scare people away from herbal remedies that work so that they will run toward ineffectual pharmaceutical alternatives.

first we had to dump l-carnitine for causing heart problems.

Could you tell me more about that? I take l-carnitine because i'm on valproic acid treatment. But if that's more harmful than a possible carnitine-deficency i would stop.

why would they put ginkgo extract in corn oil for ?? this cant be real. why use corn oil at all ever considering ginkgo doesnt even need any oils for absorption. im confused if the facts you got from the study are not correct or they really did that i question why.

this seems like a very well known procedure to ban anything. Like injecting rats or primates with 4000x a dose a regular would use for extended periods of time, they do it because they know the results it will produce already, making it a good study with political intentions to ban natural supplements and instead chose big pharma, where shit has been thoroughly researched and approved by the FDA to ensure that no one will ever get hurt from them!

yeh but there were reliable studies on ginkgo on humans for prevention of cancer and it didnt prevent any. so in a way, its still not that reliable for long term use. and the corn oil study, maybe if you do take too much of ginkgo extracts, try to at least not take them when you consume corn oil, at least long term.

I didn't read it wrong. The full text is available in the link I provided. Go to page 27 where it talks about the methodology.

Bunk science should not be used by regulatory agencies. It's total corruption.

amazing how quickly people are to jump on the sensationalism of mainstream media. big pharma has been at war with the holistic/alternative healthcare supplement industry for years. with enough revolving doors in agencies like the FDA, I wouldnt be surprised if the only supplements we will legally be allowed to consume in a few years will be vitamin C extracted from GMO corn.

speaking of GMOs, funny also how the studies where rats got tumors the size of my foot from eating GMO soy got such little mainstream attention. oh but the mainstream news will tell you to get your flu shot at your local CVS, and doubtful theyll mention vitamin D is what youre really lacking.

Bunk science should not be used by regulatory agencies. It's total corruption.

get used to it, cuz thats how just about all policy, and recent laws concerning food, food security, agriculture, and biotechnology are formed. monsanto, dupont, glaxo smith kline, theyre writing the legislation. influence, or position itself, in government, is their investment. we, the consumers, are the product.

is it even legal to purchase unpasteurized milk in your state?

food for thought
