MFR, your post above is probably the best thing that I've seen you post on here since you registered, and I actually agree with every word of it. My political views are all over the map, conservative in some ways, liberal in others, and certainly don't fit into any of the existing parties. Although I like neither, I am more tolerant of the modern Democrat party than I am of the modern Republican party. But, like you, I would happily take a government made up of TRUE conservatives over anyone currently being offered to us from either party.
The people who call themselves conservatives today are no more conservative than the people they call liberal. Both sides believe in the liberal application of government powers, just for different purposes. The labels have practically no affiliation with their original meaning anymore - we might as well just call them red team and blue team....oh, we already do that. How about "corporation team" and "inappropriate regulation that just adds layers of bureaucracy without addressing the real problem team"? Doesn't roll off the tongue very well - won't make for catchy headlines.
