Getting Clean And Smoking Weed Possible?

^^like I said I found that was the situation for me, with my "friends" it doesn't mean that's how it is in every occasion. I do have some friends who are great and that I can count on for support

I know how you feel with feeling as if you need something. For you, I'm pretty confident it's mental. Schools good because I spent a majority of my time there, and if I found myself getting bored I could always just pick up some school work or hit the gym. I've found it works best for me when I keep the same routine at least throughout the week

That's why rehabs are so structured, with idle time the mind will wander. Since you say your a pilot your probably in a lot of different cities and such. Go out to the local bars and pick up chicks man. That's something to do, I'm sure being a pilot can help aid in that process

Start a hobby like teaching yourself to cook or something. Personally I hate reading but see if you can find a good book to occupy your idle time. I've been thinking about starting the series that show Game of Thrones is based on; killer tv. Come to think of it try following a good tv series so you have something to do during nights in a hotel.

p.s. if your a pilot shouldn't you be getting drug tested? how do you pass those

^^ pls don't infract me

Yes luckily for me I think with the exception of alcohol most of my drug problems are more mental then physical. I have been trying to keep my self as busy as possible but I have a lot of time to kill.

I should have specified I am a pilot in training and I am also a helicopter pilot so I am not often in other cities. Even more unfortunately I live in a college town which is now completely empty for the summer (and i have been sorely missing all the ladies :'( ). Anyways between only flying a few times a week and having to cut back due to money/ it being damn near impossible to get a part time job I have way too much time on my hands. Which of course in my world is time to get high.

As for pilot drug testing, you'd like to think we all get tested but we don't. It's a lawless land up there...I used to think aviation had some sort of organization to it but in reality it's just a bunch of regular ol' dudes flying around hoping they don't crash into each other. Especially when you fly small helicopters in a small airport.

^^I watched a small doc. on nat geo about what the flight industry is really like today it matches a lot of what you said.

Doesn't really sit right with me

Of course it's possible. Many people use cannabis to avoid some of the worst opiate withdrawal symptoms.

Cannabis isn't an opiate and it's not activating your mu-opioid receptors. Therefore, you can easily use cannabis and quit using opiates at the same time.

It definitely gives you something to look forward which isn't an opiate but is also enjoyable.

I love this topic of debate.

For the record the word clean is sobriety jargon which is defined as being free from all mind altering substances. If your using opiates but smoking bud then technically your not clean but the only ones who will call you on it are members of said community.

I personally dislike aa and na very much and think instead of emphasizing a life free from all drugs as the only way to remain healthy they should push to a lifestyle that the person wants. If you decide to quit heroin but smoke pot medicinally or even recreationally then thats your choice. You have to make up your own mind to be strong enough not to return to the grips of heroin regardless if your smoking a joint every now and then.

If a person quits a drug that was ruining his or her life then that person to me is clean. Regardless whether or they have a drink or a bong toke once in a while.

Lets lay that sobriety bullshit to rest.

Yes you can. Although sobriety radicals like NA wouldn't advise it.

When I quit speed back in the day I was sober for about 5 years, had started using weed recreationally and was fine. Didn't lead to me going back to speed or anything.

Again recently I stopped using full agonist opiates and went to a sub doctor. I still smoke weed and have been smoking every night I've been in the sub program. I'm not sure youd call that recreational although I'm not sure I'd call it an addiction either. Like last time I went on a vacation I stopped smoking for 2 weeks straight and it wasn't a big deal. I came back from vaca and just started where I left off smoking every night.

I honestly view my weed smoking in the SAME exact light as someone who comes home from work (like my brother) and has to have a glass or 2 of wine every night. Although I hate alcohol and haven't touched the crap in years. With me, every night right after I shower I have to pack a small bowl, take about 5-6 puffs then kick back and wind down for the night at which point I usually fall asleep.

last time i got off of heroin, i continued to blaze. i averaged an eighth a day, so not much less than you. however, i quickly found that without other drugs, i didn't like weed that much, and my use dramatically decreased, until i was only smoking at night. after getting clean again this time around, i gave up weed voluntarily pretty early on and haven't missed it since.

so yes, i totally believe you can keep getting high while otherwise being "clean," and i don't care what anyone in n.a. says. but don't be surprised if you find you don't like smoking like you used to. assuming, of course, that you are genuinely ready to give up the other stuff. if you aren't, you will likely find yourself trying to substitute marijuana for everything else, and though you'll smoke a ton, you'll pretty quickly realize that all the weed in the world won't ever equal a meth high (or whatever) and this tends to lead to frustration and ultimately relapse.

I used methamphetamine for fourteen years heavily I stopped cold turkey and I think that without weed I would have never made it this far I tried treatment twice and both times was high within a month or two I only sit around pulling my hair out counting the days, the minutes through the cravings but for five years now using only marijuana and and occasional beer I have had nearly no cravings for meth and don't even think about the time or the days I have clean or at least the days I haven't used meth.

u can smoke, but only after 5pm. otherwise you are a weed junkie. i am a weed junkie, but i'm trying to change. the phys wds are tough to battle ime. gl

I have been to a bunch of recovery meetings and they always tell you to quit your addictions in the order in which they will kill you... Well In my case it should be h, cigarettes, processed foods and soda, bc headache powder, coffee, then weed.....look it's not easy cutting things out of your life that feel like a best and worst friend so don't do it all at once.... I have smoked weed everyday for 14 years, I smoke an 8th every other day and the only complaint I have is that it costs money, which could go to better things..... It doesn't make me steal, I'm not sweating in hell when I run out, I can function normally on weed, instead of being a puddle on the floor, couch, chair, wherever I happen to be.... Weed is a better option for a maintenance drug for me, cuz subs still make you sick if your out..... And when I had to jump off subs I instantly relapsed....
P.s. I'm not an expert and listening to me may not be the best idea, I'm currently an active addict in the worst shape I've ever been in, drug use wise, and I cry almost everyday because I'm nothing but a slave to dope right now, the level of sick I feel everyday when I wake up is utterly terrifying because I can tell that when I feel that, I'm barely scratching the surface of what my whole detox is going to feel like....
I do see others successfully quit everything but weed and live perfectly happy normal lives. My husband, 15 years clean from meth, is a prime example. Also, I did have a year clean at one point where I just smoked pot and it was the happiest I've been in a decade.....also look up marijuana maintenance on Google and you with see tons of posts from people all over the web that use mj maintenance and are in NA.... They just don't tell anyone(maybe their sponsor), exactly like the people on suboxone.
anyway, I believe in marijuana as a medicine, it can do wonderful things that help heal the body and mind.... I'm very in touch with nature when I'm clean, and it also gives you a feeling of being connected to the earth....
My goal is to get clean, move to a medical state, where its approved to help with addiction and let the dispensary tell me what strain I need for my situation.... i may eventually stop smoking weed, but right now, quitting other things is waaaaayyy more important...
hope I helped with my perspective,
ziebug.....

Definitely possible, but everyone is different. It comes down to being honest with yourself and self-aware enough about your usage patterns to assess the impact of continuing to use weed and the effect that will have.

I smoke weed whenever I have a craving. It's sort of hard to go out and score when you're watching The Last Man On Earth and eating ice cream. :)

But seriously? I also agree with the posters who say NA/AA is a lil' stringent. I agree total abstinence is the only thing that works for some, but for me sitting around in a circle and talking about drugs will make me go want to use drugs. So if weed works for you, I would focus on the big guns first. As somebody who has had both a benzo and opiate habit, I would say the opiates are the least sustainable, then the benzos, and then the weed.

I know had I not had weed during these last couple months I would def. be high again on heroin right now. I just try to moderate it to nights and when I have shit done for the day.

If you can have a few joints in the evening, then no harm done. But if you replace one harmful addiction with a less harmful one, it's better I suppose, except you're still an addict.

And maybe you've just been lucky with no random drug tests? What if the authorities pick your airport and test all the pilots? Weed stays in the bloodstream for 30 days. If you're involved in any kind of accident and they take blood afterwards, then you're in big trouble.

I wish you well and do what you think is right, just don't roll the dice if you don't have to.
