Getting Caught With Track Marks

Anyone ever get called out on your track marks?

Has anyone at work, or a friend, girlfriend, whatever, ever ask "hey, what are those marks all over your arm?"

Have they ever actually asked if they were drug related?

What happened? What excuse did you give and did it work?

I have two pretty obvious "lines" on both arms, going from my wrist to about 6 inches up my forearm. However, for me they aren't on the underside of the arm, the "classic" spot for traks - it's more like on the inside, as if you traced from the base of the thumb down. Fortunately my arm hair does a good job of disguising them, but anyone near me would clearly be able to see them if they happened to be looking at my arms.

I can't help but wonder if people just don't notice them, or if they do and just think nothing of it. Of course paranoia makes me think SOMEONE must have seen them and thought "junkie."

Still, if I was talking to a friend and noticed an unusual "scar" like that I'd ask what happened, just in a totally innocent, curious way. That's why I figure no one has really noticed, since NO ONE has ever asked!

I have to admit, every time I look in the mirror and see those lines running up my arms, THOSE are the moments I ponder quitting. Not because I think I'm out of control, but because I don't like the idea of people being able to see the marks!

I mean if i had a significant other right now, she would totally be asking me what happened. My cover story is I was playing with a cat, holding it up by it's underarms, sort of making it walk like a person, when it just slid down out of my hands with claws out.

At least it LOOKS possible. The only problem is explaining why 6 months later they haven't healed yet.

And what about going to the doctor? It seems inevitable that one of these days I'm going to be on a doctor's visit, maybe having a routine checkup and he notices the marks... No way HE is going to fall for the cat story!

Anyway, I'm really interested in what everyone else has to say about this topic, it seems like an important thing to talk about that a lot of people have gone through, or will...

yea this has happened a few times to me, i just said my GF is in nursing school and i let her practice on me with saline.

i was going to say b vitamin shots but i didnt know if they were administered IM or IV.

also it sounds like you may have a collapsed vein if you have that little grey line that looks like someone drew on your arm with a pencil. my tracks are little dark spots on various spots on my forearms, where the skin is fair and shows damage easily.

i think i see them more than other ppl because i am aware, unless you are having blood drawn or something or if they are really bad, id say most ppl wouldnt think twice.

^^^ yeah, and I think cane deleted it because he said there was no harm reduction value in it

JB, how do you continue to get pain meds you don't really need with track marks? I mean, don't you have to see the doctor once in a while for them? I hope you get some help, it sounds like you want to stop but don't know how to.

my dad saw them one day when i was nodding in the sun, i had all ready put down the needle, and was just sniffing so my arms were healing,

hes like what are those

im like oh they're old, and nodded off again,

no, because I dont IV drugs since I am not a junkie.

I have called a friend out on it though (he has since gotten clean). There is no excuse you could give that would fly. If someone calls you out, they know what is going on, they just want to shame you and show their disapproval.

I've noticed them on people before, usually just at random places (many times at the pharmacy waiting area, actually.) If you know what you're looking for, they do tend to stand out.

I don't have track marks but have very visible cut marks. Even were noticed in the nudie thread, lol.
When my doc wanted to examine me and take my blood pressure I just wore long sleeve and when she tried to take the hand with marks I took of the sleeve off w/o the marks. It Worked.

Wear long slave, always or use make-up.

other than that never had issues.

What if they care and are concerned with your well being?

at a doctor's office, unless surgery related you don't have to tell them about the marks or there are ways to not let them know.

during blood pressure checks wear very think stuff so then u won't have to take anything off

find ways to cover them just in case

if u no longer do it then there is no problem hiding them, but if u still do then maybe there is a problem and they can help

I have also worried about past cut marks during physicals for jobs in the future since I'll soon work in the health field

there is never a problem for which there is no solution...I try to go by that. I know it can't always work, the world is shitty oftentimes outside of ourselves but it helps to keep an open and fearfulless stat of mind. I've been trying that lately.

Do whatever you need to get things done...legally of course...not trying to make people go and do bad things

Nope. :)

Cyanocobalamin should only be administered IM or subcutaneous.

I really wouldn't believe someone was IVing B12 because there's no need for it. It's a bad excuse IMO. Most people administer cyanocobalamin in their gluteus maximus, deltoids, or your quadriceps. I doubt that is where your track marks are located.

This is very true. What is someone going to say? "I shoot up too thats what you must be doing!!!" - that's someone calling themselves out more than them calling you out. =D

That's retarded.

Try this one: "I just had an IV in because I had major surgery."

Or: "I donate plasma."

A friend of mine who is now clean 2 years off heroin had track marks that were about 5inches long on each arm. If asked he always explained them away by saying he was working with barbed wire fencing in the past and the scars were caused by that. Always seemed to work for him as no one ever asked him to expand on his story.
When he first quit the gear the scars were quite bright red-purple colour but 2 years of no more injecting the scars have faded a lot & are hardly noticeable now. So they can improve once left to heal.

when i was asked by the cops, i said they were cat scratches cause i had a bunch of those all over too, and i can only use like 2 veins in my right arm so they were just darker lines.

other then that, i wore lace elbow high gloves. like the ones you get from hot topic. and if my parents asked why i was wearing them, i would say my boyfriend bought them for me. they liked them though so they never said too much ha.

Anothy Kiedis is a self centered fuck if I've ever heard of one. Have you read his autobiography? UGH. Its the only book I've ever used for kindling.

As for the trackmarks cat scratches are good excuses, plasma donations are the other.
