Nope, although I took gabapentin 600mg (300mgx2) three times daily for 4 or 5 years for chronic tension headaches. It reduced the incidence and intensity of my headaches significantly but I started having dental problems and when I looked it up I saw a bunch of similar stories of gabapentin purportedly accelerating tooth decay.
Now I don’t know if there’s any REAL evidence to of this but it freaked me out enough at the time to discontinue it. My teeth are still pretty f’d to be fair so I’m not sure if there was actually a causative relationship.
It was a nice drug to have around though, because if you staggered doses taking small amounts every 15 to 30mins for a couple hours you could get a very fun sedative buzz. The staggering is necessary because gabapentin has an interesting inverse dose response curve where the more you take at one time - the less is actually absorbed - so you need to take small amounts spaced apart over several hours to get a really good buzz.
It also is one of those drugs that build tolerance very rapidly. On your first few doses commencing treatment you will get the nice sedative buzz but after taking it continuously for a week or so you require larger doses and the staggering method to achieve similar effects.
Pregabalin is a much better option as a sedative (not sure about seizure prevention specifically) overall since it’s stronger and doesn’t suffer with the whole inverse dose-bioavailability relationship. I haven’t had as much experience with that but my buddy was scripted it and would throw me a few trays now and then. Much more like a proper sedative… benzos are definitely better but I wouldn’t say no to some pregabs right now
