Fuck You, thats why!
I use weed to sleep and when I dont have any I dont sleep.I was wondering if i could use gabapentin for times when I dont have weed? Also does anyone have experience in using gabapentin for sleep? I see its used off-label for insomnia.

I've used drugs like gabapentin and his big brute cousin lyrica and while kinda sedating in nature, they can also wind me up with a relatively stimulating effect. Which can keep you up if perused, but also, if you choose otherwise, can lead you into a wavy dream land.

Which one was more sedating? Do you have any anxiety or anything that would cause them to wind you up?

I find both gabapentin and pregabalin to be more stimulating than sedating to be perfectly honest. I'm not a fan of either one of them.

If you need to get some sleep, try getting some trazodone or mirtazapine. They work very well and they're not addictive. 25-200mg is the general dose range for trazodone for sleep (50mg seems to be about the average effective dose, taking too much can get you into some wicked nasty nightmares so I wouldn't start with more than 50mg) and mirtazapine is more sedating at lower doses. 7.5mg knocks me on my ass and can leave me with a mild hangover the next morning but 15mg isn't guaranteed to put me to sleep.

I would try those before I would addictive meds like gabapentin and pregabalin.

I've never heard of either drug being contraindicated in the low doses used for sleep. Its true that higher doses have the potential to cause serotonin syndrome but they are quite commonly prescribed with other antidepressants. My roommate was on 40mg of citalopram, 150mg of trazodone, and 300mg of bupropion XL and when you go inpatient at psych hospitals, they always dole out either trazodone or mirtazapine for sleep to pretty much everyone unless they have an allergy to them. When I went to the psych hospital they gave me 200mg of trazodone in combination with my 150mg of lamotrigine and 20mg of citalopram without a second thought.

It is worth talking to a doctor about, they're a godsend for people who can't sleep otherwise.

My GP was gonna put me on trazodone once but as soon as she seen the contraindictions(sp?) she put me on zopiclone which didnt do shit.

Well good on her for checking the contraindications at least but if a doctor is prescribing psych meds, they should really know the established safety threshold of certain combos. Hell we used to take trazodone to come down and go to sleep after AMT or MDMA...

The only other recommendation I would have would be the antihistamines. Doxylamine, diphenhydramine, etc., other than phenibut which gets messy pretty fast.

I have anxiety, but both of these drugs give me more of an anti-anxiety effect then tending to be a cause for anxiety.

I can't say for sure, but, Lyrica, was surely more stimulating, considering it sends me up to the clouds, it just puts me out there.

While that is the case, despite the stimulation, even though I have insomnia, it doesn't leave me restless. I can think a thousand thoughts and lay my head to rest and fall into deep sleep with no problem without conflict.

Diphenhydramine- drop ya like a brick, cheap, otc, in stock at every gas station.

Just sayin'.

I think my brain is wired a bit differently since dph doesnt work, phenibut doesn knock me out, and doxylamine is only available in Nyquil here.I'm not sure about the us but pregabalin and gabapentin aren't scheduled here in canada and I can get them from a vendor for a decent price.

I'm right there with you. Dph stimulates me as well. Phenibut knocked me out in a branded combo that they sold at my local Whole Foods that had Valerian, phenibut, magnolia bark extract and theanine in it.

Gabapentin and pregabalin both build tolerance pretty rapidly and they're cross tolerant with each other so the best way to use them would be cycle one of them with something else. They're both quite addictive too with withdrawal symptoms not too unlike benzos.

I wouldn't be using either all the time, just for when I run out of weed or the weed man runs out.Either of those scenarios would be like 2-3 days twice a month.

As long as I dont use it all the time I should be fine.I've never binged or 'went off' on anything the worst I've done is use mdma every weekend for a few months about 6 years ago and I spent a weekend in my room with .5g mxe one time.I've also tried valerian root and it did nothing at all.

valerian root is a bit different from a strong valerenic acid extract. I had a 20% extract that gave me a nice mild Valium-style glow for awhile but the company that made it isn't around anymore.

If you're just talking about occasional use, I see nothing wrong with gabapentin or pregabalin as long as they actually put you to sleep.

Got lots of experience in this area. Smoked tons of weed, tried tons of drugs. Without any doubt, the best sleep aid ever is

X A N A X.

I'm talking 7 hours of deep, REM sleep my friend. Start with a low amount say, half a 1mg tablet.

REM sleep? Someone doesn't know what they're talking about... Benzos suppress REM sleep.

That and Xanax is not really all that great of a hypnotic...

lyrica is better than gabapentin by leaps and bounds, but it is very expensive. i have BCBS federal employee insurance and i still have to pay $90 out of pocket.
