Hello, I was searching for information on Yerba Mate and Focalin and have come up with very little information. I found an old thread: http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/archive/index.php/t-414691.html

I found this post by :hamhurricane (tried PM but can't because I am new, so figured I would try and get info from other bluelighters)

there are about a million things you could do.

i would switch to d-methylphenidate as its really a fantastic drug, and if your a student with insurance there is no reason to be slumming it with adderal. consider nootropic supplements, daily magnesium, and most importantly drink yerba maté continuously throughout the day (i did all these things (and many more)) and im doin OK).

also this is not advanced.

Hamhurricane's response is the closest thing to any info I have found. I just started taking focalin and find it to be a much cleaner stim, I also am a big tea fan and still need a boost in motivation and focus and have been very interested in using Yerba Mate daily. However I have read that Yerba mate is an MAOi and also have read that focalin has severe interactions with Maois and I was wondering how if you could share any experience you have had with the two. Were there any negativities, did it increase anxiety, hard pounding, etc. I am desperate to get myself more focused and productive and I am both loving the focalin (today was my first day) and very excited to try yerba mate (hopefully tommorow of the next day) Thank you! I find proper research is the best solution whether for recreational use or even prescribed use. And this is for prescribed use.
I have tried adderal, d-amp, vyvanse and all of these three have lasted VERY long in my system, I took a 40mg vyvanse and 5mg damp around 9am and it kept me up for 24 hours. Also lots of jitters, agitation, and increase in anxiety have urged the change to focalin.

I find without anything I cannot wake up, let alone focus on anything. All of this is new to me because within the last year or so i have an increased ADD and anxiety. Usually I can pay attention, retain knowledge and ace tests without studying. Now I am sluggish, poor memory retention and just plain lazy.

Any info you can provide would be much appreciated!

Perhaps you could post in that thread? It is still open. I'll leave this open here a while and see if any other suggestions come up.
I need to warn anyone thinking of starting yerba maté that it tastes like dirt and I don't mean that in a good way.

I find references on occasion to mateine as though it is something other than caffeine and it is not. Mateine, caffeine are the very same stuff just as FYI.

The MAOi info I'm finding about yerba maté atm is pretty general w/o any info on strength or whether it is selective. Hopefully a better researcher than me or someone already knowledgeable can find some relevant info for you. I wouldn't do any MAO-Bi inhibitors or general MAOi's with focalin or related drugs. That is also w/o any good research or experience, it just seems like something likely to cause problems.

Thanks, I guess I was not a member at the time I viewed that other post, and never noticed I could still post there also it was 2 years old and somehow rationalized starting a new thread would be best and simply using the quote as a basis for some info. But thank you for your information, and leaving it open. I really do appreciate it.

Hope to hear from some users of Focalin and yerba mate!

Ive tried it before, basically the same as coffee with Focalin, but a little less jittery. I dont like it because it makes me tense and nervous and takes away from the euphoria from the focalin. Yerba Mate is a tea whose main active ingredients are theobromine and caffeine, theobromine is very similar to caffeine except it tends to provide milder, more steady, and longer stimulation than caffeine. It is the ingredient in chocolate that makes people feel good.

Its not a dangerous combination unless you're talking about excessive amounts, but personally its just not as pleasurable as Focalin by itself which is already not that pleasurable.

Yerba mate is not a MAOI when used at normal levels. It shouldn't, however, be combined with MAOIs.

Yerba is an acquired taste. It tastes, unsuprisingly, like you chopped up a plant and made tea out of it. Not unpleasant like cactus glorp or kratom/poppy tea, but earthy none the less. Personally I much prefer a good tall glass of yerba mate over most other caffeine sources, except good black tea.

Yerba and methylphenidate works well, I would imagine d-TMP would be even nicer.

The supposed MAOI effect of yerba mate has no scientific basis. This has been discussed in the past, it is a factoid from an old patent that keeps getting repeated.
