I just visited my normal doctor's office to get refills on my klonopin which i've been prescribed by this office for almost a year now. i don't abuse it, never get it refilled early, never pay my bills late or anything. however, today, i saw an "internist" who i'd never met before. i told him about my anxiety and how it was time to refill my Rx. he seemed ok with it but was confused as to why i didn't see my doctor i normally see when i visit. i told him the truth, she wasn't available.

so, normally i'm given 3 refills per visit so i'm effectively being monitored by my regular Dr. tri-monthly. this is a great system and has worked well for me as i don't take klonopin every day, only on days when i know i'm going to need it (lots of social interaction, interviewing, etc.)

after we converse with one another, the "internist" leaves and i hear something about "street value" and bla bla bla from outside the door. i'm waiting and waiting and finally a nurse comes back in with three pieces of paper. the first is my Rx. the 2nd is my billing statement. the third, on highlighter-yellow paper, is an anti-abuse user agreement. it said that i wouldn't abuse my pain medications or sell them on the street or try to visit another doctor to be prescribed these medications concurrently. it also said that i would not engage in illegal drug using activities like smoking weed, doing coke, etc. on top of that, the Rx is for only 1 month with no refills.

why? i have never had to do this at any office for any reason, even when i was getting pain medication. however, i wasn't getting pain medication this time. klonopin, yes abusable, is not for pain. it's intended for, and i use it for, ANXIETY. why in the hell did this doctor have me sign an anti-abuse agreement?

what the hell is going on? am i going to have a hard time getting the medications i rely on so very much from now on? am i going to be cut off? am i going to be drug tested every visit from now on just to try to live a normal life?

any advice, ideas, VERY FUNNY remarks would be greatly appreciated.

thanks BL, you're always there for me when the other self-consumed assholes in my life aren't.

sincerely,

little

i have the same ... see the doc every three month and just had to sign the same peice of papper

any theories? is this a new procedure to cover the clinic/firm's ass?

it felt very denigrating and disrespectful. it's one of the few times i ever thought about just going apeshit on a doctor. he didn't even have the balls to have me sign it himself. what a fucking bitch.

idk, i am SO pissed off right now.

So this was the doctor's office you always go to, just a different practitioner? Or a different office altogether? I didn't read that properly, apologise. But the doctor who knows you and originally prescribed the klonopin will have to be the one for your next visit and you must insist on seeing him only. Not this other douchebag. It's unreal that they made you sign a pain medication agreement! I'm sorry you had to go through this. They probably made you feel "grateful" to even get your 30 day script. What dicks!

I believe with pain medication, yes it is a standard practise. But I'm not aware of this going on with anti anxiety meds. ~theresa

Sounds like there may have been a recent incident involving another patient...doesn't make what happened any better tho.

if you signed the contract, u may be expected to abide by the terms which may include pill counts for all controlled rx, and random UAs. Get a copy of the doc if you signed...it can answer some of your questions.

i agree with T...only see ur doc from now on.

Littlebylittle were do you live; I live in Florida. They recently started doing this at my doctors office. I am perscribed hydrocodone and tramadol. The nurse said the tests will be once a year I got drug tested for the first time around 1 1/2 months ago and failed it for weed.

My doctor treatend to drop me as a patient told me she was cuting me off from my tramadolc and hydrocodone and have to go to a pain clinic for it. She didn't care that the weed helped my multiple medical problems. She said she'll still treat me but said I have to do random tests to reseave any form of medicine and treatment from her and if I fail againI get kicked out of the practise. I was able to get her to persribe me my tramadol and hydrocodone again by seeing a psycologist to evaluate I'm not a drug addict.

my guess is that might just be something new at your office, it probably would've happened with your doc aswell. but who knows. I wouldn't look too far into it unless your doc wants to do a pill count (you said you don't abuse it and there are some days where you don't even take it, so you should be alright there). and if its just a regular doctor, and not a pain management doctor, I doubt they have you do that anywayz or a drug test.

I see an oncologist and I get Marinol, Valium, and two different kinds of Morphine and I don't get pill gets or drug tests (although, I"d only have to be worried about the pill counts because morphine would cover my heroin use, and Marinol would cover my marijuana use, and I rarely take the valium)

Littlebylittle were do you live.

i live in NC. i can't afford the expense of a clinic-administered drug test. that would up my bill by like $60 per visit. it's crazy. i'm seriously considering waiting this script out and getting a new office/doc.

maybe i didn't mention this before but i am an opioid addict. that's the reason i ever even started seeing her (my doc). she helped me with the RLS and with sleep medication. after a few weeks my anxiety from PAWS ( i think ) was rendering me useless and incapable of doing my job. now that i was laid off, my anxiety got worse and i asked for a dosage increase and/or switch to something like valium.

idk. i'm trying not to stress about it too much, but I'm gonna go see her (my regular doc) on monday morning to see what the deal is, even though it's gonna cost me extra money. basically, klonopin isn't touching my periodic anxiety. and the anxiety isn't constant any more like it was when i was Post-Acute withdrawing.

i guess i'm just afraid of being totally cut off at this point. not b/c of benzo wd (which i know are HELL psychologically) b/c i don't abuse nor do i use every day. it feels like i'm being punished for seeking the drugs i've had no issue getting before just b/c i met with a useless "internist," whatever that means anyway.

hey, thanks for the replies guise. BL is the shiznit.

thanks,

little

p.s. anybody have any opinion on what a better benzo would be for the situation i've described (however inadequately)?

and

why in the hell did this doctor have me sign an anti-abuse agreement?
is he just trying to cover his ass since i came clean about my previous pain pill addiction?

i dont get it. yeah it is a pain that you only got one month instead of three, making another appointment necessary in less time, but other than that, what's the problem? won't you see your usual doctor next time?

Sounds bogus & messed up on that doctor's part to grill you like that & be so stingy with a med that you need, especially since it doesn't sound like you've ever abused or done anything illegal. I would have taken it up w/ them right then & there man.

Littlebylittle I wouldn't really worry since it is probly just a new policy that everybody has to deal with and your not being singled out beacause the doctor suspects something.

Even though marinol will cover the thc it wont cover the thcv; another canabinoid in marijuana. Some doctors that perscribe people marinol may test them for thcv to find out if they are takeing marijuana along with their marinol.

but other than that, what's the problem? won't you see your usual doctor next time?

appointments cost money. drug tests cost money. plus this dickface was disrespectful. yea i'll see my doc next time but I have to see her next week instead of three months from now as usual.

thanks for opinions errbody
