Tonight is Godfather night, the greatest film in history imho Let the celebration begin. Time to pour the Hennesy, light up the cigars, light the candles, turn down the lights, gobble down some Percocet and cuddle up with my girl to enjoy The Godfather. The perfect way to finish off Valentines Day after a night out at our favorite Italian resturant. What better way to celebrate the day where we show our affection to our s/o with mafia families killing each other. What a treat.

The Don is returning home tonight

yea yer comparing that movie to the godfather? gimme a break. with the exception of part 3, godfather is one of the greatest movies ever.

part 2 with deniro as a young don corrleone is spectacular, and then the ending when mikey sits in the dark sipping his drink and having a smoke while they show clips of fredo being offed in the boat is powerful.

the musical scores alone are without comparison.

"once upon a time in america" is a movie that 20 years from now, might have a small cult following, but will not be discussed as a classic cinematic event. 30 years later, the godfather is still discussed, loved, and admired by everyone. a true icon in the movie industry.

i digress , watch " once upon a time in america" (the 220 minute version)again... sergio leone rules
he made an epic that coppola cant match in his wildest dreams..anyone that thinks any of the godfather movies are better than " once upon in a time in america" is a victim of hype....

then i guess a majority of the world is full of hype. like i said, 30 years later and its still talked about.

once upon a time in america will be forgotten in 2 years. once the next big "indy film" hit comes out.

or maybe they can both be appreciated as great films - is there any law or actual form of reasoning which says that if film a is good, then film b must not be?

come on guys: tekno, maybe you should (and perhaps all of us - i'll check it out asap) take this as a recommendation of once upon a time in america, and then perhaps those who disagree can have a nice friendly debate on the issue :)

from the guidelines: "If you have a problem with the style or content of a post which goes beyond the actual issue being discussed, do not raise your concern in the thread - experience teaches us that only makes things worse. Instead, click the report button..." thanks.

I'd put up the Godfather Saga over Once Upon a Time in America any day of the week. Personally I was disappointed with the latter, as it seemed to drag on and on. I just didn't find myself all that interested in the film, though I wouldn't say it's a bad film. In the end I would say it was a good film, albeit predictable. It just doesn't match up to Godfather I & II, or the Saga.

i prefer godfather, but if once upon a time... hasn't been forgotten in 20 years, why would it be forgotten two years from now? sergio leone has a huge following, dating from his spaghetti westerns.

(btw - it's also not an indie film, unless you consider warner brothers an indie studio)
