I knew absolutely nothing about this film before renting the DVD, and I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't just another predictable 'troubled kid meets teacher saviour' movie. I've read a lot of negative reviews since which I can understand if one had had very high expectations before watching it. Not something I would recommend to all my friends, but only to a select few who I think may find it interesting. I particularly liked the way few of the characters were standard, predictable movie characters, i.e. the good guy, the bad guy, but they were likeable as normal, flawed confused people. The story itself could have been better, but the way in which these characters navigated through their own memories and the way it was presented in a non-linear narrative made it quite enjoyable to watch. It didn't leave me in awe pondering some profound philospohical truth that had been shattered in my mind, but it was thought provoking nonetheless.

It's been compared to Donnie Darko, or American Beauty, but I found it quite different.
So I'd like to know what people thought of this movie?
