ironically, you spelled the name of the movie in the title wrong

The similarity between Koyaanisqaatsi and Baraka is no accident, as they have the same director of photography (Godfrey reggio I think...). I personally think the former is far more coherent as a movie, has a better sound track, and made in a more interesting way (Francis Ford Cuppola grapped a Hopi shaman out of central America and said "make a movie about the city").

I have watched Koyaanisqaatsi on the small screen and found it immensely disappointing - frankly, I would only bother if it is on at a cinema with a good sound system. Forget about DVD - unless you have a fuck off home cinema set up. Also, the first 3 times I saw Koyaanisqaatsi I was on acid - highly recommended!!! (Drop it while driving in - it comes on as you queue for tickets - incredible peak for the closing sequence - then several hours wandering the city "flying" buildings and other fun tricks ;) )

I think these films are brilliant. The soundtrack by Phillip Glass was a nice touch, if you are into minimilism. I thought the music definitly amplified the images, especially in certain parts. IMO :)

my favourite of the series and one of my favourite movies.

Some nice eye candy and an interesting experiment but extremely over-rated as far as I'm concerned.

^ I don't know. It was shot beautifully. That's true. Though I'm pretty sure if I set up a camera in a location for 3 years I could get some beautiful shots too. I might be wrong about their filming but if I'm not that's just a personal qualm. Maybe some of the techniques were new and pretty spiffy but talking about how 'beautiful it all is', well, I just think they had it a bit easier than say someone who has a very small window to get the shots they want and make it beautiful.

Also, half-way through I was pretty much done. I thought the theme was extremely belabored.

I do enjoy Philip Glass. His music was probably the highlight of the film for me.

Also, the irony of using technology to criticize technology is beyond hilarious.

I'm guessing somewhere someone in front of their dumb computer in an air-conditioned, overly-bright office while sipping on their $4.00 Starbucks latte came up with the excuse in their movie review that the 'irony is intentional' but I'm not buying it. That's the film creator's job. They make movies. If the creators or critics ever tried to pass sweep that under the rug I'd probably roll my eyes.
