Saw this finally yesterday.

I can see how some people thought it was boring. It was quite slow, and languid, indulgent almost in parts.... especially the bit at the Chapel at the start... I thought it was never going to end! But once you got into the "mood" of the film, the pace suited it perfectly, and actually added a degree of tension and depth the first didn't have.

So different from the first! A lot more insight into the characters, especially the twisted relationship between Bill and The Bride.

I liked how Kill Bill 2 made the protagonists seem more human - in the first, there was nothing to relate to; you couldn't empathise with any of the characters. They seemed more real by the end of this movie, and although the humour and cartoon violence was still there, there were real emotions at play this time.

I was glad the blood splatter was kept to a minimum - it allowed for more clever and sadistic revenge (the coffin, the eyeball, the five pointed exploding heart trick), rather than just slice-em-and-dice-em same old same old. Wicked Tarrantino, how does he come up with that shit? LOL

Great movie. Not, perhaps, the "5 stars" our city paper gave it in a drooling review, but a solid 4 most definitely.

^^^ how does he come up with it? well, a very, very generous portion of the movie came straight out of old, existing movies! but no problem here, as this was one of the main reasons the movie(s) were so entertaining to watch.

I think Q is one of the most passionate filmmakers today or ever for that matter. I think that's why his work shines so and at the same time is reminiscent of so much that has come before.

i agree; i think his movies are awesome. what did you mean by reminiscent though? i meant that some elements were directly lifted (to pay homage of course); not so much reminiscent but in fact copied. for example, pai mei is a character (exactly the same one!) out of executioners from shaolin/fist of the white lotus...gordon liu, who was in those movies as a different character plays pai mei in kb2. the bride's motorcycle outfit in japan is what bruce lee was wearing in one of his movies. the opening sequence has that shaw bro's shaw scope title which is at the beginning of all of their movies. those are just a few examples, but seriously, the movie is *littered* with references. i think there's a guide at http://www.hkflix.com that you can check out.

^I know what you mean. I was thinking of resevoir dogs when I said 'reminiscent' but I think it applies to all his work. The feeling of being completely new yet inspired by what's come before.

I really enjoyed this movie. My only complaint was with the opening scene with the bride talking in the car. I could have done without that.

though. wtf did "Bud" shoot Bea with? did he say frigging rock salt?

Yep, farmers will sometimes shoot at trespassers with rock salt. It won't kill you, but it hurts like hell.

christ, left to right and physix are my two new best friends.

I'm not gonna chop this one up and add another long ass post, i think everyone else has had their fill of those.

I gotto agree for the most part with everything L2R said, I think this movie was still much better than the majority of flicks released these days, but i felt it was definitely a little lacking. I still need to go back and watch it a couple more times before i make a final opinion, but i definitely felt that QT had let me down a bit with this flick.

I'll add a lot more later ( at school right now waiting between classes)

Sorry....my brother finally lent me his copy of Kill Bill 1 and 2 the other day and ..well...i dunno. It just didnt GRAB me the way Quentin Tarantino movies usualy do. Sure, the art direction is beautiful, the camera angles are perfect, the lighting, sound, acting, animation are pretty damn good, but maybe i just EXPECTED TOO MUCH? When it ended I was like WTF?!??! After masterpieces like Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction and other greats like True Romance, you would think that Kill Bill would live up to those lofty expectations bestowed upon it by virtue and name recognition alone. Guess not!
Alas, the fight scenes totally fucking blow. Maybe its because I had just seen Crouching Tiger & Flying Daggers the other weekend on a DVD binge, but I dunno. The fight scenes in Kill Bill 1 started out impressively at the start (with vivica) and it sort of just petered out at the end. I didnt even bother finishing the 2nd DVD....I was nearly falling out of my chair due to boredom. :p

The only role I liked in this movie was the one played by Chiaki Kuriyama....otherwise. Bleah.
:p :p :p
