In the spirit of all Hallow's, I'd like to say a few words about the 1978 "Halloween" horror film.

The critics hated it when it first came out, and many people still do ... but DAMN, to me this movie scared the shit out of me when I first watched it and it's become one of my favorite movies. I watched it over and over again, and then I "got it." Underproduced independent film, just wanting the simplicity of real life murderous maniacs that hang out in you're back yard, creeping about ready to strike and end you're life. Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, Michael Myers, ... these are the people that emphasize you're fear of death.

I highly reccomend if you're open minded and dont mind not seeing blood every 15 minutes like in every other horror.

The 25th anniversery DVD came out and is very decent as far as extra's, quality and pricing.

me either.

if halloween is so real and is a representation of real murderers out there, then why didn't the character have a personality or any motivation. why wasn't the emotions of the characters explored on film?

it bored me from start to finish

Michael Myers was in a catatonic state from age six to twenty one, suddenly arose from it years after killing his sister. Psychologically, it can go deep ... but the film doesnt go deep because the movie needs a suburban and regular atmosphere in order for the movie to work in the way it's specified. You, the audience, arent suppose think deep into psychopathic tendencies as that would just ruin the simplicity familiarness to every day life.

Ya dig?

I love John Carpenter and this film. It's a shame Halloween had to be created into a money driven franchise like the Friday 13th and Nightmare on Elm street. Carpenter's films always seem to recieve terrible reviews when first released but over time they become classics, such as 'The Thing' which is a favourite.

The Thing is his best, I think. Halloween is a classic, but it's not scary. BTW Myers was supposed to be featureless in every way. It was only in the 1st sequel that a link was built with Jamie Lee Curtis' character. The film has been copied ad nauseum since then. A much better (and typically underrated) film is The Fog. It's a much spookier movie, with good performances and a tightly knit plot. Yeah, The Fog is a really excellent movie.

when i first saw Halloween, it scared me a little. after that, i quickly became obsessed with Halloween 1-5. i don't know how many times i've seen each one.

not a fan of the newer ones... haven't seen any of them, but i don't want to either.

in fact, i'm watching Halloween 4 on tv now.:)

I love the original Halloween, saw it when i was a kid and it scared the shit out of me... not so scary any more, but i still love it for sentimental reasons...
i agree with xena, all the new ones are crap...don't even bother watching them...

I watched Halloween (3 or 4) last week on TV...it was one of the worst films I've ever seen. I guess I watched more for laughs than anything else. It had to do with some weird TV commericial controlling the kids that watched it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Silver Shamrock. Yeah, that was 3 which sucked big time. In fact all the sequels do (though 2 is watchable enough). 3 was also Carpenter. One of his duds.

When I was a kid, my mom took me with her *around 5yrs old* to see the original and was scared shitless, but loved it! I still think its a great great flik, but not because its scarey, I think its more a nostaligic thing for me.

Still give it 2 thumbs up!:)

I watched this the other night and it sucked. I had seen it before too and it sucked. What was the body count in the 1st one? i think it was less than 10. Deaths were not very creative. Boring plot. But on a high note there is odorless weed in this movie. I dont like any Halloween movie. For "series" movies I have to say "Friday the 13th" series are the best. Freddy cracks jokes and kills people in a fun way. Meyers doesn't talk and stabs people with a knife ( if i can do it then its not creative enough)
