Unless you want to spend the next 2 hours crying alone in the darkness of your protective coat closet, don't watch this movie on mushrooms.

^tee hee.

i liked it, i really did. but i'm far too dense to be able to grasp something like this without multiple exposures.

Really, really good movie. Thoroughly impressed with almost all aspects of this film. 3/4 stars.

Fantastic movie. Not far short of perfect. Very possibly the best movie made since Stanley Kubrick died.

Easily one of the best movies made in the past 20 years. Certainly, one of the most unique. I'm surprised that ten people gave it one and two stars, respectively. When I think of a one star movie,I think of Ghost Rider or Hostel.

You know I've seen this movie maybe more than ten times and I love every minute of it. It leaves me feeling exhilarated and sentimental at the same time. I LOVE IT! =D

^^
Funny, ini't... how a movie about the bleaker side of love can be so affirming at the same time?

Eternal Sunshine is such a beautiful movie. Tragedy and comedy, love and hate.

We all have to get there sometime.

I have seen this twice and I absolutely love it!!

It is just so cute and so intelligent at once.

This film moved me more than anything that I have seen in quite a while (I saw it for the first time about 6 months ago). It left me, like many great movies do, questioning myself, the film, and wanting to discuss it with others.

First time I saw this movie I was in awe.

Second time, I wanted to cry.

He thought so hard to keep her memories...

"Meet me at Montauk"

Seriously. I have nothing else to say.

Seriously. That scene at the end...it was just amazing. I think the best part of this film is just how psychedelic it looks. It puts me in this high emotion/mental state, as if I were on LSD...and I feel like I'm almost there. It just makes me feel so overwhelmed.

I can't believe the only post I've made in this thread is a Charlie Kaufman quote. I could gush about the genius of this film to the point of gluttony but the words would seem wasteful. If you connected to this beautiful piece of art in that deep, deep, speechless way (and it looks like a lot of you did), then you know how I feel.

Very well said, I find that I have trouble talking about the things that mean the most to me for this very reason. :)

NEWSFLASH - I've only just seen this!!!

If truth be known I was going out of my way to avoid watching this for quite some time. You see, I have a general aversion to Jim Carrey. And even though my best friend kept telling me how good it was, I really didn't think I would be able to get passed the Carrey issue enough to enjoy it. I just can't stand that rubbery looking face of his. But anyway, I was so wrong. I was genuinely surprised by his performance and kind of related to the reclusive, shy aspect of his characters personality. A very different role for him indeed and I enjoyed watching him immensely.

I instantly fell for Winslet's Clementine too. And though I'd never really given it much thought before, I realised that I <3 her in pretty much everything I've ever seen her in. And I'm gonna give a special mention to her accent as well as I thought it was particularly good.

*Side note* how stunning was she in that kitchen scene with the red hair?! 8o

Ahem. Anyway, back on track.

I sat down expecting a straight forward love story. And what I got in return was something quite different. But all that was kind of irrelevant and superficial to me anyway as the thing that interested me the most was the message. I guess it's open to interpretation (as most things are) and the thing I got from it is something I already knew. But in some ways it left me with a comforting thought.

Life experiences can leave us hurt emotionally, and sometimes the pain is so bad that we feel like erasing that memory or feeling as we assume that will make everything better again. But the fact is that we learn from both the good and the bad. And whatever the outcome, these things make us stronger as people. Everything happens for a reason, and certain things are inevitable, unavoidable, or even fated to happen. And given the choice, we'd probably do them all over again. Even if we know we're destined to fail.
