wanderlust
Bluelighter
(warning: time for a little v&pa/f&t crossover- content contained in here is way too artsy for you)
this is next film by matthew barney- and if you are not already familiar with him (from his cremaster cycle series) then i suggest that you either stop reading and not watch the trailer or just be prepared to go whatthefuck.
barney is a prominent modern artist today with a recent huge showing at the guggenheim as a retrospective of the five cremaster films... and with that comes all the 'too deep for you', complex out there thought, and all the no logical relation between parts overload you can get. all that and yet he is revered by some/many as a genius. he has already made his way into many art books and because of his newest film he is gracing at least two covers of art mags just this month (as i noticed this week in the book store).
review of d.r.9 are not as good as ones for the cremaster series and warn that it is not for non-fans. barney directs and stars with his girlfriend bjork by his side (doesn't just that statement give you some idea of what this will be like?).
considering there is no real story line and it is more of a loosely strung together visual feast (and auditory if you like bjork). the basics of the movie is a man and woman go on a japanese fishing boat, they meet and fall in love.... and then ritualistically turn themselves into whales. there is only one scene with spoken dialog with the others barraging your sight with beautiful, yet perplexing and odd, clips.
watch this trailer and see if you can take it: http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/drawingrestraint9/trailer/
so my question is... does anyone really appreciate this? will any of you go and see it? any fans?
