i guess this movie would appeal to certain people, maybe those who are familiar with the comic book character. for someone like myself who doesn't read comic books, the most obvious complaints are that the plot in this movie was being made up as it went along, the characters kept getting new special powers (there's a South Park episode like this), and there was no character development or backstory to make me have any sympathy for anyone in the film. the "plot" set up and conflict introduction is still going on in the final minutes of the movie. through the mumbeled dialogue, it is extremely difficult to discern what is going on, but at the same time, the movie provides no incentive for the viewer to want to know what is going on. add to this a phoned in performance by keanu reeves, and this movie is a mess. the millions spent on special effects and symmetrical camera shots makes for some eye candy that is mildly entertaining, but even with these things this flick is probably the worst major studio release of 2005.
