It would have been nice if Pierce Brosnan had gotten a decent story to work with. But at least Jude Law wasn't picked...

Daniel Craig named as First Blond Bond

By Mike Collett-White

LONDON (Reuters) - His name is Craig, Daniel Craig.

The English actor was named as the next James Bond on Friday, ending months of speculation over who would take over from Pierce Brosnan on Her Majesty's secret service.

In typically flamboyant 007 style, the 37-year-old swept up the River Thames on a power launch to a news conference, escorted by Royal Marines boats.

The first blond Bond wore a blue suit and red tie and posed for photographers in the shadow of Tower Bridge.

But in exchanges with reporters he got a taste of the downside of the superstardom which landing the role will bring, dodging personal questions about supermodel Kate Moss and actress Sienna Miller with both of whom he has been linked.

Some of his comments were decidedly un-Bond.

"I'd like to thank the Royal Marines for bringing me in like that, and scaring the shit out of me," the actor joked.

Craig was hot favourite in the run-up to Friday's announcement, and his appointment to star in the next Bond film "Casino Royale" was all but confirmed when his mother let the secret slip to a regional newspaper earlier in the day.

While little known in the United States, Craig will be more familiar to British audiences after appearing in the gangster caper "Layer Cake". He also played alongside Paul Newman in "Road to Perdition" and Gwyneth Paltrow in "Sylvia".

Hmm, a pity, I'd really like to have seen Clive Owen in the role.

Well, we shall have to see what he does with the role. The original 'Casino Royale' is totally devoid of gadgets, I wonder if they'll stay true or pull another 'Moonraker'......

Lets just make Bond and American who happens to represent BMW and Schmirnoff vodka corporation, carries a gun, and spews out a horrible script like Tommorow Never Dies. What is with all this "people who are actors" crap? Lets just dispense w/ the "movie" and just cut it into clips for ease of use as advertisements for high priced consumer goods. 8(

No kidding. Who plays James Bond doesn't really matter as long as we get another two hour video catalogue for The Sharper Image. 8(

Eva Green To Be 'Royale' Bond Girl, Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter

She's French actress Eva Green, and she'll star in the new "Casino Royale" as the character Vesper Lynd.

Green's film debut was a couple of years ago in the ultra-steamy movie "The Dreamers." The director of that NC-17 film had once said Eva Green is "so beautiful it's indecent."

Now, Green will use that beauty opposite the new James Bond, Daniel Craig.

Her other films were last year's "Kingdom of Heaven" with Orlando Bloom and "Arsène Lupin." She is presently working on the European film "Zhivaya Riba."

In other casting news, Jeffrey Wright, who's currently in "Syriana," will play a character named Felix Leiter in the new Bond film.

It was already announced that Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen will be the villain in "Casino Royale," which is expected in theaters on Nov. 17.

eva green is motivation enough for me to watch another bond film, even if i just download it and only watch the segments she appears in. bertolucci was right, she's indecently beautiful. ~swoon~ , and i hate bond films.

it's also worth mentioning that Martin Campbell will be directing. he did GoldenEye -- the best of the Brosnan movies, imo.

^^ no way
sean connery is the only james bond ever
pierce brosnan fitted the role quite well but no one can get to sean connery's level

Actually, I agree with you...

I'm just acting on behalf of Roger Moore's eyebrow. See, now that Roger has gone into semi-retirement, the eyebrow feels that his profile could be 'raised' with a bit more promotion.

Pehaps Sean could be convinced to shave one of his off? Sean Connery with Roger Moore's right-hand eyebrow... it's a winner, trust me.

connery obviously was the ultimate, back when the bond films were actually worth a shit... but pierce brosnan wasn't bad, it was the shit he had to work with that held back his full potential. roger moore and timothy dalton sucked in my opinion

If you have a problem with Daniel Craig then I highly reccommend you actually watch him act.

Go rent "Layer Cake" it's a good drugie movie folks!
