Bubba Ho-Tep...the official spoiler free Radar Review
It's not often that I eagerly await an independant horror flick to come out, but Bubba Ho-Tep certainly was the exception. It had one of the best writer-directors of the genre behind it, and the legenday Bruce Campbell at the helm. The premise was incredibly unique and well-thought out. In short, this movie made a lot of promises.
And it delivered on every one.
Bruce plays an elderly Elvis Presley so convincingly that it's easy to forget that it's him at all. The makeup was fantastic, the voice spot on. Ossie Davis' acting is, as usual, stellar. And of course, Don Coscarelli once again shows us why he stands alongside Raimi and Craven as one of the undisputed kings of the genre. (And hey kids, keep your eyes open for a special guest appearence from Reggie Bannister himself!)
And best of all is this: now that Coscarelli is FINALLY done with this movie, he can get back to making Phantasm V and hopefully TIE THE FUCKING SERIES UP before Angus Scrimm takes up residence in a mausoleum for real.
All in all, this was a hell of a fun movie, with laughs abound and excellent perfomances from every member of the cast. If it happens to be at an independant moviehouse near you, I highly advise that you go see it!
