fake 911 call from police

There have been several incidents around here with officers coming to a house party saying that someone called 911 from that residence. Obviously nobody admits to having made the call, and I would have thought the cops to be telling the truth, but I've heard of atleast 2 other cases where this has happened.

Does it make any sense that they were lying about this to gain access to a party with suspected underaged drinking? Can I refuse access to my residence even if someone did call 911?

usually its a neighbor complaining about noise.

Tell the police that they do not have permission to enter your home. You should (almost) never consent to a search. That does not mean you should physically prevent the police from entering your house. They can still legally search your residence if there is probable cause that a crime has been committed + exigent circumstances, like the threat of evidence destruction -- otherwise, they will typically need a search warrant.

Why wouldn't they just say that then? I remember when this happened to me that the phones were locked up when I tried to make a call and the officer said that when a call is made they keep the line open and they have to call it in that everything is ok.

i've seen this happen too many times. I live in chicago, and cops do just about whatever they want here. They're definately not above lying to gain entrace to a party, but i cant say if thats wat happened in your case. As banquo sad, DO NOT concent to a search, if the cops do come to your door while your partying, make sure everyone with drugs or anyone underage is hidden or at least out of sight, and simply explain that they're mistaken and you will turn down the music or whatever.

some have even recommended stepping to the outside of your household door and closing it behind you -- before talking to the police. i think this might make them more suspicious in certain circumstances so, as always, exercise some judgment. one general truth seems to be that it is usually in your best interest to be polite when confronted by law enforcement, HOWEVER, this hardly ever means consenting to a search.

We were having a small (and I do mean small) party at my ex's house when the cops showed up for no good reason. You couldn't hear much of anything outside the house, and even if you could, all the neighbors up and down both sides of the streets were college kids that had parties too, so it's *highly* unlikely that anyone would have called with a noise complaint. As soon as I saw them creeping up the block, I hauled everyone's ass inside, had everyone hide what needed to be hidden, and locked the door. And good thing I locked it too, because not 20 seconds later, you could hear the doorknob being turned/jiggled. The police were trying to walk right in the front door unannounced. After they finally rang the doorbell, my ex went to the door with his ID, asked the cops what they wanted, and they said they had received a complaint. My ex showed them his ID to prove that he was 21 when they asked and pointed out that when the police arrived, there was no noise, and said that he would make sure it stayed quiet. Fortunately the police left right away after that (I guess they were smart enough to know not to push their luck any further... 8)).

So yeah, cops will come up to parties for no reason all the time. On the college campus here, they just drive around and look for groups of people on porches. Just be calm, get everyone out of eyeshot of the front door, and above all be polite.

now this brings up an even more interesting question that semi-relates to a case here in atlanta about the old lady being shot by cops when they raided her house unannounced on an informants tip(drugs)...

do u have the right to fire on the cops in that situation especially if they did not immediately identify themselves.....

like what if u had been raped/robbed before and u got a gun.....the cops come to break up this "party" you dont know its cops and they just open ur door unannounced and barge in what happens if u shot them?

^^^Some dude in MTL did the same thing not too long ago.

Theres been alot of home invasions going on lately and everyones getting all paranoid. Apparently they had a warant for his arrest so they just walzed right in in the middle of the night when he and his family were sleeping. This guy freaks out and thinks hes about to get his shit kicked in like on the news so he grabs his legally licenced gun and blows one away. Now he's in big shit, but I gotta say I'm glad he set an example. Pigs, piss off and let us live.
