Went to rehab about 40 days ago for long term oxycodone abuse at high levels - 15-20 30mg pills a day for 2 years - 7 days of detox followed by about 20 days of therapy - came home feeling "good" not great - through the acute withdrawals but paws is really tough. after about 10 days of staying clean after returning from rehab, I had a very stressful/difficult few days - and tonight in a moment of weakness - downed 2 30mg oxicodones ... PAWS disappeared almost immediately but I am now feeling very bad that I "gave in" - already flushed the 4 other oxi 30's I had on hand to eliminate the temptation. Here is my question - will this one lapse after 30 some days of being clean "restart" the acute withdrawal process or will I just gradually revert to the PAWS symptoms as the narcs leave my system? I am very dedicated to getting/staying clean - I am worried that if the withdrawl symptoms come on too strong after this lapse I will not have the strength to fight through them ... and I am wondering if I should seek more treatment or if there is anything else I can do proactively to lessen any effects and prevent this one time lapse from becoming a full blown relapse. Any/All advice is appreciated.

hey man hang in there. If you feel guilty and want to stay clean then stay clean. dont go back to using like you were. ive been sober 5 months and its hard, but honestly fuck drugs. they fucked my life up one to many times. its always fun at first, and then gradualy life turns to shit. im in a halfway house, maybe you could look into going to one and see if that could help you. Hang in there man

thanks for the encouragement - I am with you on the drugs just f'ing up my life - I had everything going for me 5 years ago and then got into oxi's and sat by stoned while my life went down the toilet. Now I am starting over and trying to rebuild/recover from all the damage I did - all while feeling like crap. thanks again for the encouragement.

Don't beat yourself up over this. It's just a small slip up.

I had a friend who just got out of detox and was in so much pain that he had to go get more oxy himself the same day he got out. Rather than 10+ pills a day that he was taking, he's trying to keep to down to 1 to control the WD's and the pain he was using oxy for to begin with until he can get into a methadone clinic.

It's been 2 days now since he got out and he's had one pill each day. He honestly looks better, functions better and he recognizes he has a problem and is trying to do something about it. To me, that's the most important thing.

Shake it off and move on. Anyone recovering from any kind of substance can slip, be gentle on yourself :)
