Hi, first post in TDS but need to write this down somewhere because It feels like am going to explode.

Ok, so I started to get symptoms of Temporomandibular joint disorder about 3 years ago now. Started off as tinnitus and gradually got worse to the point today where my whole face is in agony, every muscle feels like it is trying to crush my head. I cant talk to people because it makes the pain worse, I cant chew foods, I have never been so depressed.

I have had to stop playing video games because it increased the muscle tension, and that was a massive part of my life, but most importantly I am going to have to stop using cannabis as the toking action has recently started to worsens the symptoms. This has absolutely devastated me because cannabis is the only thing keeping me going really. I honestly dont want to imagine life without it, its not worth thinking about.

Doctors say there is nothing that can be done and wont even consider prescribing me painkillers or muscle relaxants, they are so scared to prescribe painkillers to non elderly people in the UK. (I have been self medicating with morphine for a while but my supply is running out)

I know there is nothing I can do about this and I am just going to have to find a way to live without weed but just needed to vent somewhere.

I know how much pain affects the things we used to enjoy.

As for pain meds and relaxants, try a new dr? I am in the uk too and it took me ages and dr docs to get decent meds. I'm still struggling finding the righ medication but at least my drs now listen to me etc.

Once you get some relief you will be able to game again. As for the weed, space cakes not worth a try? That will help the pain too, I find eating it feels different to smoking.

Don't give up.

If you ever need anyone to chat to drop me a pm, I am always depressed and in pain but I'd like to help if I can :)

Hi Danny, I'm really sorry to hear about your condition--that sounds horrible. As Doomed said, why not try something like weed honey if it truly helps but you can't smoke or chew. Would it be possible to go to a pain clinic for other non-drug therapies to complement pain meds?

It's quite difficult in this country to be seen by a pain clinic without your gp referral. I am waiting to see a private pain management dr as the one I saw originally did nothing, was an absolute ass, made me cry all of the time and not want to go and see him, then he told me to go on 100mcg ph fent patches and discharged me saying he couldn't help. I was already on 75mcg patches and my gp wanted me to carry on at that dose for as long as I possibly could.

I'd def change my gp if they wouldn't help me, intact I nearly changed mine until I found a different dr at my surgery that understood my agony and actually wanted to help.

that's sad. After being on this forum, I am getting disillusioned with health care systems that I formerly admired--they still work better than mine (U.S.)--but that's not hard because mine doesn't work at all! What about alternative medicine in the U.K. (like acupuncture), is that available and covered?

No its not covered but it is available. You have to go to a private practioner etc. I think some nhs trust areas are starting to include acupuncture as a treatment for certain conditions butit's not the norm. Our system would work apart from the fact too many immigrants came into the country having never pain into the system, used the free health care etc and dont pay anything in. So it is over stretched. Same with people from the eu that came here, use the service but haven't paid in. If it was only available to people that have paid in, it wouldn't be as much as a problem.

I don't think I'd like to be in america at the minute as I cannot work and don't have private insurance so I'd get no treatment, which I need a lot of lol.

You can't learn to handle the pain? No treatment? I can't believe that.
Switch doctors till you get on pain meds. Try suboxon maybe or methadone. I hear suboxon is prescribe in the UK right? at 19 I had a sugary changed my life. Pain forever. Opiets didn't help. Once I had a pill to take away the pain I kept taking them until I built up such a tolerance it was a hard crash something like Methadone or suboxon offer long term constant pain relief.

Cool, thanks for the advice people. I think I am going to try cooking with the weed for a few months and see if that helps. Will change doctor as well I think but it sounds like they are mostly similar when it comes to prescribing things.

Nah, if you find a dr that understands your condition, the pain and how it is affecting you, they will prescribe something that will help you. You just need to keep trying to find. Sympathetic dr. Pain management would be beneficial, so once you get a new dr ask for a referral.
