I have heard that Ephedrine HCL has a similar effect to amphetamines - more focus and concentration, lower appetite, more energy. Is this true? Are the effects comparable?

Ephedrine is comparable in terms of some of its stimulating effects, but definitely inferior to amphetamine.

The ephedrines are in general better decongestants than stimulants.

It has terrible peripheral effects without any of the euphoria. It feels mostly like pure anxiety with few benefits and next to no one finds it recreational. It can have some use for sinus issues, appetite suppression and providing some energy but I find it rather uncomfortable feeling generally.

Ephedrine is mostly just peripheral effects - appetite suppression, more energy, nasal decongestion, raised heart rate and bp (not to dangerous levels for most people + sane doses), a little more endurance in the gym, slight raise in metabolism.

Very popular with bodybuilders looking to lose fat (combined with caffeine at around 25mg e + 200mg c 3x per day, stopping a few hours before bed time) but not really recreational (maybe the first few times you take it). But even for fat loss it's far from magic.

So really, depends on what your goals are - trying to have fun? Not worth it. Fat loss? Can help, check some bodybuilding sites for details. Also probably not a good idea to take it if you have any pre-existing heart problems.

In structure quite similar, in effects miles apart.

yeah, it's structure makes it really hard for it to cross the blood-brain barrier hence mostly peripheral effects
