Enrolling in new psyche facility, what do I do when I'm out of meds?

This may be the wrong place for this thread, but I couldn't figure out where else it might belong.

I've abolished my ties with my previous psychiatrist clinic (due to 8 years of bad practice) and I'm now getting enrolled in a new, closer clinic, but my medication is going to run out before I'm able to see an actual psychiatrist at my the new clinic.

After six ER visits and a final visit to a local crisis unit (because of severe anxiety), I managed to lose my drivers license which is the main piece of information you need when enrolling in a new psychiatric facility. Because of that, its going to take a bit longer to be seen.

The first day I can go to the new clinic and start the enrollment process is on Monday, and I'm going to be out of my medication Monday night. I'm certain I won't be able to walk in Monday morning, enroll, see a psychiatrist, and get back on my medication the same day.

I'm worried about not having my medication until I have an actual appointment with a new psychiatrist? What are my options at this point, what can I do about my medication? Thanks.

Have you tried contacting either psychiatrists office and explaining the situation to them? It sounds like that might be your best bet at this point...

Well since I'm out of my previous facility system, they say they can't do anything for me except call their mobile crisis unit (since I'm still under their free 'insurance'.

I've called the new facility that I'm enrolling into, and they say they had a special emergency clinic just for people out of their meds, but they -must be- enrolled in order to recieve any treatment from that clinic.

I'm going in to the new facility Monday to get the ball rolling, but I'm not even sure if that means that I'll be enrolled that same day. If I am, there's a chance I could go to their emergency clinic (I'm guessing), if not, then I'm still stuck in the same boat as I'm in now.

When they had told me that it may take up to 2 months before seeing a psychiatrist at the new facility, that kinda set the anxiety triggers off and I went ballistic, didn't know what do to. Someone's told me to just head up to another ER and explain the problem to them, but I've already been to so many ERs the past month, I don't want to be shoo'ed out with them telling me "you're coming here for the same problem too many times" like they did at the last one I visited.

I didnt think it was even legal for the ER to turn someone away... If someone is going there "too many times for the same problem" then obviously they never actually fixed the problem.

I'm glad you see that there was something wrong with that situation, too.

Basically, I was waking up with anxiety so bad it was causing unspeakable stomach pains/cramps that would lead to vomitting that would never stop (causing me to have to go to the ER). They'd to ctscans and x-rays, everything would come back negative, they'd just say that I might possibly have a kidney stone. Then they'd usually either prescribe some Maalox or Zantac and send me on my way. The only time they actually gave me something that worked was painkillers and an extra benzo (I'm already on clonazepam, they prescribed .5mg of xanax along with that) and it seemed to work.

After being moved from the ER to the other crisis unit I mentioned in the first post, they put me back on my original medications that I'd been on for nearly 10 years (Lexapro, Trazodone, Gabapentin, Clonazepam). These are the ones I'm going to be running out of tomorrow unless I can talk to someone at an ER that actually has some sense, not just trying to send people out the door as fast as possible to get to the next person that has a sore toe.

Is there another ER you can go to? If they are prescribing something like zantac for a panic attack/anxiety they are focusing on entirely the wrong issues. I dont really know what to tell you :\ I wish you the best of luck. The only thing I can think of is finding a different ER. Really all you need to do is find a doctor who will listen, because what to do from there is pretty straight forward.

I think their thought was "since this guy is already on two different medications for anxiety, his problem problem isn't due to anxiety". That's why I was surprised that they prescribed me the .5mg of xanax, since I'm already on 1mg klonopin three times a day and 400mg of gabapentin four times a day.

I'll definitely be going to a differerent ER (not one of the 6 that I've already been to). I'm going to go ahead and make a call up to the ER I just looked up that seems to be in a nicer part of town (if that means anything at all anymore), see what they say, and hopefully I can go from there. It just got real bad when the new psychiatric facility told me that there's usually a 1.5 to 2 month wait before you actually get in to see/talk to your psychiatrist.
