Will one or two eggs every morning cause your cholesterol to go nuts or anything? I'm trying to make an effort to eat more, and boiled eggs and cereal are something that I can make and eat quickly. I just don't know if eggs are horrible for your heart if eaten too often or something.

i think this has to do with yourself in general. i think there was so guy whop ate 2 dozen eggs a day or week or something and had perfectly normal cholesterol after doing that for YEARS. go to your dr. first to see how your cholesterol is now just to make sure you're not already up there... and i know you're skinny and rather in shape, but i'd also like to point out that weight and how in shape you are has nothing to do with cholesterol.

if you're really worried, just make sure you have checkups/blood tests and maybe just eat one and a half eggs every day... or two egg whites and one egg yolk, since the yolk is where all the cholesterol is.

p.s. cage free eggs are so much better than non-organic eggs

A lot of studies these days indicate your genes are half the problem when it comes to cholesterol (I know, I'm on plenty of meds for mine). Personally, I do what I can diet wise to limit my cholesterol - including limited egg intake. When I do have eggs, I tend to ask for 'egg-beaters' or some other form of low cholesterol egg substiture. I figure every little bit helps.

As for quick breakfasts - what about cereal or granola types of bars? Heck, even Pop-tarts are quick and easy (if not overly nutritous). Toast is always simple. But perhaps the best advice I'd seen was to eat an apple - it is supposed to help wake you up and get you going, while still being a healthy breakfast food. :D

YOGURT! yogurt is the best stuff ever. the light n fit smoothies are good, too. and chock full of good for you stuffs.

Hey Beagle, I had the exact same questions! Here's how I solved it. I boil a bunch of eggs at the beginning of the week and every morning I'll eat just the boiled egg white (throw away the yolk) along with a piece of fruit. Fridays are considered "Yolk Days" where I can enjoy the entire boiled egg! =D

i like just the egg whites when theyre boiled and pretty much when its an omlette too. i might add a little yolk but thats it.

is that a bit racialist of me? ;)

There is nothing wrong with one, even two eggs per day for the average healthy adult.

Eggs contain cholesterol but there is still doubt as to how much effect dietary cholesterol really has on blood cholesterol levels. It is likely that saturated fats have a worse effect: Eggs contain mainly polyunsaturated fat, which can actually lower blood cholesterol if you replace saturated fats in the diet.

The average egg contains only 5 grams of fat - 1/6th of what's found in avocado. Eggs contain lecithin too, which helps fat processing, plus are a great source of protein.

Don't stress about eggs. They're a great food. Worry more about the fats and cholesterol in processed foods.

1 or 2 egg a day should not increase your cholesterol, unless your cholesterol is already high, you should not eat egg.

I believe that eggs are also high in lecithin which emulsifies colesterol. Try to eat free range eggs that are high in Omega 3s. Eggs are good for you.=D

As others have said, eggs are high in cholesterol, so if you have cholesterol problems, you should probably steer clear. However, cholesterol levels are very dependent on genes, so those with good cholesterol genetics probably don't have much to worry about.
peace

I went to the doctor about a year ago for a checkup and he told me I didn't need to come back yearly because I was in great shape. So I guess I'm in the clear.

To be honest, I'm trying to eat more of a breakfast because I'm trying to gain about 10lbs by summer. Sounds easy, but not for people like me :/

dietry cholesterol isnt as bad as cholesterol formed from too much sat. fat as your body has a feedback mechanism which downregulates its own production of cholesterol to keep it all balanced. Plus the leithicin as mentioned above is like an inbuilt cholesterol checker mechanism - bonus! Oh and much of the goodness is found in the yolk - all the vitamins, good fats, ribofalvins etc etc, the white is just (good)protein.

I've read Vonnegut. Breakfast of Champions is a martini.

I generally go with girlier alcohol early in the day, though.

And to make this on topic for the forum, alchol is bad for you. Period.

Except moderate amounts of red wine.

And dark beers.

But I mostly drink liquor and white wines.

So I'm fucked, pretty much.

And to stay on topic for the thread:

They don't know. It's hard to figure out exactly what people are eating, doing or expressing (genetically). If humans were lab rats, we'd find out exactly how many eggs over a lifetime, how much dietary cholesterol, how much saturated fat, etc, is too much. As is, people lie to scientists about what they eat, do, etc.

Personally, I don't think a reasonable amount of eggs, meat and dairy products is going to cause cholesterol problems. But when did I ever consume in reasonable amounts?

I think it's cute that nowadays, the blame for cholesterol is placed on genetics. Well how the hell do you think that bad trend got there in the first place? If you believe in karma, now is the time to chirp in.

It's fairly simple, people. Meat, dairy, eggs are the biggest contributors to cholesterol, BY FAR (not to mention it's choked in sat. fat). If your family and history indicates that your cholesterol is going to be higher than normal because of this history, you got an uphill battle on your hands, meaning that the same amount of meat, dairy and eggs will effect you more than the normal person. Sadly, in America, the "norm" is so high in cholesterol that the "normal person" dies of a clogged heart more than many other things.

If you stop eating meat entirely, your cholesterol will be about 10 pts above the "heart attack risk" zone (150). If you cut all meat out and moderate dairy and eggs, you'll be below 150. Vegans (no animal products period) range at about 110. (BTW, 1% of vegans are overweight)

And for the breakfast thing, I consider grained cereals and soy milk to be the best energy someone can have for sustained energy over the course of a day. Isn't that what one would want, ideally? And if you can't meet that, I always keep a Clif or Odwalla bar/drink on hand for the easiest nutrition you've ever come across.

^ Eggs contain mostly polyunsaturated fat, StagnantReaction. And they also contain lecithin, which is mother nature's built-in cholesterol regulator. As for your assertions to do with meat and dairy, there is still no finite evidence of their effect on blood cholesterol- it is best to err on the side of caution though and limit cosumption if high cholesterol is a problem. I really don't think your unsubstantiated scare tactics and hyperbole is helping your credibility. If you really insist on pushing the veggie barrow, at least try to be informed.
