effect of expiration on ez test

A friend and i tested a no. of pills on the weekend and didn't get much of a result from any of them.
The e-z tester had expired, but was unopened prior to testing.
Can anyone tell me what effect this would should have had on the reaction?

Was this a small one ??
Had it gone brownish ??
Even with an extremely expired brown E-Z Test you will see _some_ colorchange (to purple) if it is an xtc like substance.
My guess is that your samples were bunk...
