Eczema

I get eczema in my eyebrows. (having itchy, scaly eyebrows sucks balls... at least its not too visible)

Shampoos with coal tar in them have really helped me. Nutrogena T-gell is available in gerocery stores around me, so I use it despite the availibility of stronger shit elsewhere.

I used it originally to fight my dandruff, and thought 'what the hell' and started cleaning my eyebrows with it. Worked fine. Also, coal tar type shampoos are the only thing that helps my dandruff. everything else is bullshit.

hey:)
i had it really bad when i was little and still get it every now and then when im under stress.
COD LIVER OIL is a really good natural remedy and also try stress reduction techniques

I am cutting back on using steroids and hope that the nice summer weather will be beneficial for my skin. Ideally I would like to stop using the steroids and I see that happening in the near future.

Anybody hear anything about applying a topical ointment containing zinc? You can use it topically and orally.... supposedly it helps eczema... sorry I don't have a source.

eek. This happens to me from time to time too. I'll get an itchy blotchy spot in my eyebrows and sometimes on my forehead. I never knew why and since it doesn't happen TOO often, I didn't really care. I wonder if I have a mild case of eczema :o

Maybe I'm just a hypochondriac ;)

My boyfriend has eczema/dermatitis on his hands, which is not a good thing since he works as a bartender - this actually probably caused the first flare-up, because of all the cleaning materials, alcohol and citrus fruits his hands came into contact with. He's tried steroid creams, ranging from OTC to prescription creams, but they only work for a few days, and then his eczema comes back again. He worked as a waiter for a while which cleared his hands up a little, but now he's back to bartending again and his hands are getting worse... So I've been scouring the internet for info on what other alternatives there are for eczema. Haven't found anythign extremely promising, but thought I'd bump the thread to see if anyone else has.

As for antihistamines for itching, are these just the normal oral antihistamines you buy OTC at the pharmacy? Do they work for this?

I stopped drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, eting sugar, diary-products, wheat flour and began taking nutritional supplements. My eczema is now completly gone, and it does not seem to be flaring up again, even though I have started to drink alcohol again (allthough only in moderate doses).

I have been using a cream called Florasone. It's a homeopathic cream, no steroids. It's used for inflammation, rashes and eczema. It contains cardiosperm which comes from a plant (sorry I don't have more details for now). Best of all, it has no steroids. I use it on my face and it settles down the itching and discomfort of eczema, iv'e found that it works pretty well.

I still recommend Protopic. My hands and back are very bad right now (due to the cold weather, and the hot dry air inside from the radiator). But my neck is perfect.. which used to be my worst spot.

The hands are exposed a lot, so I can't really do much about them. My back, well it's got a lot of eczema spots and it's not only difficult to put cream on the spots, but expensive as well. So currently I limit my usage to the most visible spots..

Good luck!

Aren't all these creams (florasone and protopic) very expensive though? I really have empathy for everyone with this problem, it's getting my boyfriend so down and work is painful for him and I just can't stand it, I really feel bad for him!!! Will show him this thread though.

felix poker, what kind of nutritional supplements are you taking? Thanks.
Oh, let me see... I take a basic multi vitamin/mineral supplement, cod liver oil, evening primrose oil, zink, vitamin C, brewers yest, Silicea-capsules, beta-carotene and B-complex with magnese in the evening.

But, I did not take all of these when I fought back the eczema. I think cod liver oil, evening primrose oil, a good multi vitamin and mineral will do the work. Maybe some extra zink and vitamin C.

Sunlight also seem to do wonders to people who has eczema. I used to be totally free from it in the summer-time, so exposing the eczema to sunlight is probably a good idea.

I don't think that's due to sun expose. That tends to dry the skin out. I think the reason is because in the summer, people don't have their radiator on. At least that's what seems to be the major cause for me... Our radiator broke recently and we only had cold water for two days. Surprisingly my eczema cleared up A LOT. When the unit was restored, the eczema flared right back up. Don't think that's a coincidence.

Resurrecting this thread to share a little success my boyfriend has had with his eczema... He's tried almost everything, I've spent hours online researching and looking for possible cures, conventional and alternative. I found out that Liquorice Root is anti-inflammatory and works in the same way as steroids except without the many side effects. I couldn't find a good cream, so I bought a 1:4 Liquorice tincture in alcohol. I mixed a little of this with coconut oil, wheatgerm oil and a few drops of neem oil, all three are supposed to be very good for eczema (especially neem oil). My boyfriend started using it a little over a week ago, so maybe it's too early to tell, but the improvement has been very noticeable, especially compared to all the other creams he has used. His hands were particularly bad before he started using the mixture, but now they look really good and rarely itch. Hopefully this improvement will last, if it does then I'll be really proud of my handiwork! :D

So I just thought I'd share this with everyone suffering from the same problem. Even if you're sceptical about this, it doesn't hurt to try - most of the ingredients are fairly cheap (I had to go on ebay to buy the liquorice tincture, couldn't find it elsewhere). I'm not really sure of the proportions I used, but I'd take a rough guess that I used about 30ml of coconut oil (has to be melted since it is solid at room temp), 20 ml of wheatgerm oil, 5 ml liquorice tincture, 2 ml neem oil.

that is awesome glitter!
i will purchase the products tomorrow, or at least attempt to.

my 4 yr old has it and it is so terrible watching him itch all the time. we keep the rashes away by moisturizing moisturizing moisturizing.

every bath gets a half cup of oatmeal ground in the coffee grinder, then we put a heavy moisturizer on while he is still wet, to keep in the moisture. we have seen an improvement since doing this religiously. i will try your ointment for the elbows and knees where it is the worst. thanks.

If you arent using FLUOCINONIDE you arent using the right shit. That shit is fucking amazing.
