Hello and thanks to anyone who reads this, here's my current case. After about a year being completely sober i slipped up and met an old friend and snorted some heroin. A week later and i've done it again. i've never really been too far down the heroin path but i really don't want to go any further. My year spent sober was very genuine although sometimes a bit dull. I recently started a B.Mus for guitar and have found a hard time adjusting. I know my problem is very small considering the things i read on this board and the things i see happening to my old "friend" who is IV'ing; but I really don't want to fuck up. Are there any suggestions for things to do in the first week of sobriety to cope with that restless feeling one gets around a week after using? Thanks friends, i just feel so damn stupid.

Don't see your friend, for any reason at all.
For the restless feeling, play guitar bro, or go for a run. You're not far down the road, keep it that way.

Yeah, you have to channel all that obsession and need into a constructive activity or hobby you enjoy; you're at a vulnerable time now.
And no, it's not a small thing at all; your at risk of becoming re-addicted to opiates, it's a very big thing.
The cravings can wear at you constantly, weakening you're resolve. Speak to people, share your problem, and always know that the cravings will pass in time; you will feel normal again. You have to remember the misery of opiate addiction, the horror of withdrawals, they are no solution. (Sorry, I know you already know this).

You've done amazingly well by staying clean for a whole year, I hope you get through this and continue your excellent progress.

Hey 7 =D Don't feel stupid.. loose that as feeling stupid does nothing for you. If this had anything to do with intelligence we wouldn't be here.

Congratulations on the year and the very best of luck with your studies=D Thats an amazing accomplishment. Some things to think about may be? How were you able to do this? What changed that put you in the position you are in now? If your goal is to stay sober why were you so close to drugs?

As far as the the year being a bit dull... this is something that should be easily addressed.. If you tell us what was different about not using that you felt was a little dull people may be able to offer some incredible suggestions that could wipe all that dullness out.

As far as getting over that drive that was awakened buy the use.. there have been allot of good suggestions made already.. first I would set up some kind of support.. some people that know what you are going through and are aware of what happened and will have a little time to spare. A three minute phone call can often save us from many hard years.. we as addicts have to find out how to arrest the process.

As far as the restless feeling you have after a week it could mean that you have an adcition cycle of about a week and will need to find away to arrest that cycle ( >Addiction Guide< ) or everytime we use a substance to manipulate the our brain chemesrty the brain chemestry adjusts so it can start like a wave of feeling. I believe this is caused by the brain trying to adjust back to base line but it sorta goes bi polar for a bit, not bipolar like the illness with every drug. But say for instance we take a stimulant and then the drug is broken down and leaves the system.. 1st we will experience a low because the drug was removed. 2bd we will experience an up when the system tries to level out from the up but over shoots. third we will feel anther low when the system adjusts again.. and so on and so on with the ups and lows getting less dramatic for the most part. So i bet i looks something like this and is also influenced by our day to day moods and experiences so it wont be a perfect reduction.. but something like this..

so you just have to remember like dopeme said you will get better and this will pass. Another good thing to do is plan something exciting, to get a little non drug related excitement back in yoiur life, plan something exciting where you will be both busy, have a good time, and be away from the area where you normally can score or have scored drugs.. plan this with a sober friend or a friend in recovery. this will add excitement to your life, take your mind of the craving, keep you busy and occupied, and protect you from continuing down that slippery path.. as the drugs are still the same and the consequences and bad results will just go allot faster this time. Its just the way it works.

A weekend road trip to a new area where they have a place that offers tandem ski diving, so you can show up in the morning and be jumping out of an airplane by noon:).. then a nice lunch and a little sight seeing or what ever and then a little guitar around a nice camp fire on a beach or someplace nice. Get up in the morning and a little white water rafting or scuba diving or bird watching or oil painting or enduro riding or mountain biking.. and then raod trip back hitting a good thai place for lunch.. and wolla you mad it trough and had a great time doing it.. nest weekend is a whole nother adventure.. sine you are in school check and see what clubs are available that do really interesting things on the weekends.. what kind of music can you hit and still be safe and feel comfortable.. I stopped really using allot at music years before i stopped using.. just got sick of it taking away from the music.. so its possible to still do things you used to do.. you just have to plan a little ahead and be prepared.

Hope some of this may help.

Maybe hit up an NA meeting. Seeing a newcomer that is still struggling will help you see that you don't want to get any deeper into it, which should help you move on.

Yep everyone above is right, don't see your friend. Do you have any other friends who you can hang out with? What I usually do on weekends (if I am not lazy to go out which I had been lately) is hang out with my friends and watch a movie or watch a gig or something. You honestly do not need drugs to have a good time. When I don't feel like hanging out, I would just watch animes with my bro lol that or movies he downloads or play tennis or badminton with him. I can't really compare myself to you but I am happy with simple things. :)
