This is a call to all DnB fans out there. I've always liked the music, but that was as far as it went - I never fully got into it. But last weekend at Burning Chrome I finally got to hear it played at a party properly, and have gotten totally hooked. Problem is besides what it sounds like I know fuck all else!
smile.gif

Sooooooo... I need info so I can soak it all up and pretend I'm intelligent next time I'm talking to people about it
wink.gif
. DJ's, producers, track names, good albums, DnB nights (melbourne), whatever you can offer!
smile.gif

Boss Dog: can you re-list all those names you told me Sunday morning, cos my memory is too sketchy to remember pretty much everything you told me!
wink.gif

Thanks everyone!!!

Oh yeah, and before I get a flood of links to bluelight pages in the music forum - yes I've done my searches. What I'm after are peoples recomendations...

I'm thinking of making the voyage from DJ Icey Ice to Soulaar too, depending on how the next few days pan out
smile.gif
(and if I'm to assume correctly, the support DJ's will be the crew who played at Burning Chrome, yes?)
You should also see Shimon on Friday week, it should be a great night (I'm still unsure about Dome, though).

pps BIG BUD too
enough of my rant but thank fuck for contributing an interesting thread to social pleo, hopefully the sign of improvements to come.

I don't really listen to drum and base much anymore, but it is still a quality genre.
Most of my stuff may be out of date, I was listening to DnB back in 1996-97, but this is the best of my stuff!
Roni Size - New Forms - The Beatles of Drum & Bass
4 Hero - 2 Pages - An absolute work of art! Page 1 is Drum & Bass infussed with funk with beautiful lyrics, Page 2 reveals the darker side to 4 Hero.
Goldie - Timless - This is his first album I think and still stands the test of time, I never really liked the Saturn Returnz, I found it a bit too anal.
rich

I am a huge Roni Size fan. His latest album (or any of previous are quality).
LTJ Bukem as previously mentioned, is the king of ambient. Check out anything else on GoodLookingRecords for more chill/ambient and intelligent drum n bass.
And MC Conrad is also quality.
cheers
pinger

Welcome to the real world of wicked tunes!! You want to know about DnB?? E-mail etric - he's about the biggest DnB head you'll find in Perth. He and Ezidick got me hook at Grooverider over Easter, and I haven't looked back!! etric also puts recorded sets on the net somewhere, but I'm not sure where...
Also listen to Big Bud (more ambient DnB), Andy C, Grooverider and Total Science. The MCs really get you into it!!

DnB is what i started on and i still love it.
If your interested theres a pretty good doco on the radio 1 website that talks about hte origins of DnB and has interviews with some of the greats. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/media/urban/drum_and_bass.ram
DnB is definatly a type of music u have to get into and can't just sit and chill too because it has so much energy.
But alot of people don't understand it and think its just noise
smile.gif

as grooverider says:
'who says drum and bass dont have flayva? Are you really listening?'

i couldn't make it to Soulaar!
very very annoyed!
[This message has been edited by muziq (edited 07 September 2001).]

After a while you hear jungle in everything!
But seriously, if you want to discuss DnB, just say that Bodyrock (by Andy C and Shimon) sucks big hairy dog balls... then they'll know you're a true junglist
