Drug raid cops shoot 92-year-old woman, face murder charges (Merged)[Updated 4/29/07]

Cops will often do the "Red light trick" when they want to get to a crime fast, but without causing the large amount of disruption that just flipping the sirens and lights on and tearing down the road causes. It doesn't mean they're not pigs, just be aware that it's usually not just because they don't want to sit at a light.

contrary to popular beleif and general practice, police are not above the law. They derserve to go on trial for this. I really hope that this makes more people question the lagality of what the police do in the name of the "war on drugs"

this actually restores some of my faith that some people that work under the department of justice actually care about doing the right thing even though its not the usual practice. it seems in other cases where police kill an innocent person, there are no reprocussions, maybe a payed suspension at the most. i would go so far as to say that those we entrust to uphold the law should be held to a higher standard than the rest of us, and if convicted should pay a higher price (in this case, if these officers are convicted, they should serve life with no possibility of parole)

Ga. Reconsiders No - Knock Warrant Rules
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
March 1, 2007

ATLANTA (AP) -- A group of lawmakers wants to make it harder for police to use ''no-knock'' warrants in the wake of a shootout that left an elderly woman dead after plainclothes officers stormed her home unannounced in a search for drugs.

The measure would allow judges to grant the warrants only if officers can prove a ''significant and imminent danger to human life.''

The measure was prompted by the Nov. 21 shootout between Kathryn Johnston and three police officers during a no-knock search of her Atlanta home. When the officers entered without warning, police say that Johnston, 92, fired a handgun at them and that the officers returned fire, killing her. An autopsy concluded she was shot five or six times.

Narcotics officers said an informant had claimed there was cocaine in the home, but none was found.

Democratic Sen. Vincent Fort, a sponsor of the bill, said the case was a warning that it has become too easy to obtain ''no-knock'' warrants.

''Every citizen ought to be safe and secure in their homes,'' Fort said. ''A no-knock warrant should be a special warrant, not a standard. And that's what it's evolved into.''

An Associated Press review of all no-knock warrants filed in Atlanta's Fulton County last year found that the authorities involved often give scant detail when applying for the warrants.

No-knock warrants are intended to prevent suspects from getting rid of evidence and to protect officers from violent suspects. They typically are used to search for drugs and weapons.

Pity she wasn't better armed, perhaps she could have taken some of the gestapo with her.

Better to be dead than to be a narc in prison.

He will spend years inside protective custody AKA PC/Pussy Custody, which is as bad as solitary confinement.

He will slowly go insane from mental torture and lack of social interaction.

The only groups of people who are truly in serious danger inside of prison are ex-cops, snitches, and baby rapers.

Ex-cops especially are very hated, especially narcs, since half the prison population is in for drug crimes.

No way the cops should be charged with murder, they were just doing their job, I would sure hate to live with the fact that all this mess happend. i have respect for most cops, they deal with some fucked up crazy shit, see things and deal with situations none of would never want to imagine. I know a guy who worked for the coroners office and went along with some state troopers to retrive a murderd baby from her parents bed, with the knife still in her.

just doin their job.....

Now the judge who signed the warrent and the DA whom felt it necassary to push this warrent to give the right to the officers to carry on with this 'no knock' raid should be in some shit though. they are just covering their asses! most of us here understand 2 bags of crack to me most likely no more then a gram each and probably 2 20's or maybe even 2 10's. the reast of the people who have read this in the paper i would bet imagine 2 zip lock bags full or something.

what a general statement.

if some one started shooting a gun at me i for sure as shit would shoot back or get the hell outta their until she ran out of bullets in her 6 shooter with my kevlar vest. if i did feel i had to shoot her, i would then go crazy wondering"why did this have to happen, why did i wind up shooting an elderly scared non drug dealing woman?!?" and feel like the judge/DA's puppet, who is now going crazy.

I might suggest that the police should take some of that money they spend on kevlar and bullets and do some actual covert surveillence on the suspected residence. This is not the first time an incident like this has happened, wont be the last.

How many lives have pigs destroyed?

How many people are rotting in prison for drug crimes?

None, but then I havent ruined any over stupid shit either.

I've also never killed anyone :)

I'd say that puts me on top.

I don't hate all police either for the record.

My cousin's husband is a lieutenant in another county, awesome guy, I gave their son $100 for his graduation present at a party he threw.

Narcs who raid people's homes for drugs though, I have no respect for.

I've trained with several police officers who I was on a pretty tight basis with personally.

When that uniform goes on then we're not buddies anymore.

As a drug users we should recognize that the police ARE out to get us. Whether they're good people personally is more or less irrellevant. We all have good reasons to not be to fond of cops on a professional basis.

Exactly, once they go into pig mode all bets are off.

I know the one guy in my family would never bust me unless I blatantly forced him into it, but in general he could care less.

I drank at his house when I was underage long ago, saw him at funerals when I had active warrants etc.

If you meet a pig on duty though, all bets are off, the same goes for them as well, they are just as guilty of going into sociopath mode at that point.
