What a SICK title for a headline
You are exactly right, when I saw that headline I wanted to puke!!! WHy????
My brother, 20 years old, died Friday of abrupt high dose xanax withdrawal.
He was an organ donor.
A woman in another state, only days from death, received a miracle, his lungs. She will now continue to be a Mother, Sister and Wife instead of being buried like my brother.
His Kidneys went to another state to save two more lives, his pancreas and liver stayed in this state to save two more lives and the many bone grafts, marrow transplants and skin grafts that he made possible will mean that for YEARS to come he, in death, will save lives and make life better for others.
He was a HEAVY user. We tried everything, but he was pretty sneaky, little rebel that he was, it finally took him before his life even started.
His organs were perfectly healthy and usable and I PROMISE you, any of you would be hard pressed to find a person who has inhaled more crap , shot more dope or snorted more powder. Not that that is a compliment to him, it is a verification that "drug addicts" (HOW FUCKING OFFENDING!!!!!!) can have perfectly healthy organs and THEY CAN SAVE LIVES!
That woman who received his lungs could have been any of your Mothers, Sisters etc. Would you really care that my brother inhaled a lot of meth and crack and weed????/ Or would you rather not be the one who buried a relative?
I would rather not be the one burying my brother...........but I did. And in his death he is saving lives.
Gone but never forgotten........JPR.
robatussin said:this is an excellent point. Seriously you can add the words "drug addict" to any headline to get more reads. This sensationalism stems from the idea that drug addicts are somehow "less human beings" than a cop who is high on life and power. It is simply a scheme to turn peoples eyeballs and get the writer more attention. This article is about an organ shortage and is saying that comprimises have to be met in some cases. I am a healthy young 23 year old male, and i am an organ donor. I am sure even though i have a history of drug abuse my organs would be very attractive to a 70 year old man with cancer. If enough people don't meet the organ requirements they set, they are setting them too high and see this by people dying untill they lower the standard. If the doctor has to ask someone to choose to get my organs because i take drugs, i would rather them not get any organs. Throw mine away if you think using drugs in any form is wrong and good like finding anything.
