Let's say you are keeping some nugs in a film canister or a pill bottle for several months, and the buds take up about 70% of the volume in the container.

Some vegetables need to be vented (with holes in the container) because they release certain gases that actually contribute to it's degrading.

Weed is technically vegetable matter. Does the container need to be opened for fresh air to cycle in to preserve the potency/health of the buds?? If so, how often, once a day, once a week?? Is it better to fill the whole container with buds, or fill half the container or less?

You should store it in a glass jar rather than a plastic container. You can get them in any size - even as small as a film canister. They can be stored for extraordinary lengths of time if they're dried slowly but thoroughly and cured properly using the same container they're being stored in most probably. If they're being stored for a long time you might want to consider putting an oxygen absorber in with it or an 'artificial atmosphere' to displace the oxygen. Oxygen absorbers are just made from very fine iron filings and salt, which react and remove the oxygen from the container. They are very cheap and are used routinely to store food for long periods of time. If you for some reason can't find them, which is unlikely since they're available online easily, you could theoretically even make them yourself.

IMO it's not necessary if it's properly dried.
^This^

Just make sure it's properly cured and the material is dry, and that you've got it in a glass jar-use canning jars with a screw on lid, and keep it away from heat and light.

I've heard of people putting it into the freezer but then you might have to worry about freezer burn or moisture hypothetically getting in, if your freezer has these issues.

Only if it's stored for excessively long times would you need to worry, and even then about mold not ventilation.

social topic, been covered a lot too if you use the search engine.

Please check it out, just search store / storage / storing
