It seems it's all I can find w/o a college degree these days. All my jobs Ive had centered around maintenance type of work, one job was a bus boy, a janitor, and this saturday I start my third job working at a Burger King in my area.

I've been broke as shit so I am actually pretty excited about going back to work as Ihad to quit my last job 3 months ago when I went into detox and got into subs. I wanted to start all over. But in the past I always find myself getting excited at first but gradually over the next months I feel like a loser for working at such a job at such little pay... anyone else feel like that with their jobs? How do you cope?

A dead end job is better than no job. I've never had a proper job.

im telling you right now carpentry is the way to go, if you can tolerate alcoholic coke heads then construction might be for you lol i did it for a year didn't like it might be for you. You dont need ANY schooling but a high school diploma and if you make your way up the chain you can make awesome money but like i said you have to tolerate ALOT of shit in that career

I am currently in a terrible job at a newsagents, but I'm waiting to go to Uni.

All I can say is you have a job, and just keep at it, you don't really need PhDs or degrees in bussiness, you can work your way up easily.

Keeping yourself going is tricky though, I tend to listen to a good song that reminds me about how much more there is to life, and I hang out with friends whenever I get the chance.

I usually find spending my pay check wisely makes me a lot happier to work!

Hmm, that may be why I didn't fancy working too much at my last job..my whole check would go into my arm on payday and i'd have to wait till next week to get more money. Glad im clean at least this time working.

I can see the benefits of those hours of shittiness, instead of blowing it all on a mad night (which I have done) using my money sensibly means I can get nicer things and socialise more.

Hope things start to look up for you soon man, all you need is grit, determination and a good work ethic.

My friends dad left school aged 16 and went to work in McDonalds, by his late 20s he was managing the branch and he now lives in quite a big house, so don't give up, that could end up been you one day :)

Amen

I know how that feels man. I was employed at starbucks for a few months. The money I made went to acid and weed mostly, I never felt like I was doing anything productive except for being a corporate drone and working with egotripping zombies selling extremely overpriced caffeine just for a few bucks an hour. I felt like my job was a total dead end and working full time was completely draining all joy out of my life. Finally I couldn't take it anymore and I quit, on my birthday actually. :) letting the chips fall where the may atm. Fuckin' money man.

Yep... and if this Honours degree doesn't place me in a better stead to get the type of job I want, there'll be hell to pay.

:X

Amen to that. At this point I'd take any dead end job available and be totally stoked. I'd be happy driving around the truck that sucks the piss and shit out of honeybuckets. Anything! <3

Precisely, Sweet P.

I had to go to work rehabilitation to help disabled people (as I am mentally ill and profoundly deaf) after I realized work discrimination still is a reality despite the laws after several interviews... it's just a simple loophole for the employers not to mention they rejected you for that reason.

After two years of doing this shit, unscrewing things, putting cardboard in trash cans, etc. I get paid 270 bucks and a recommendation to work some menial job at a hospital. That makes me happy either way.

A dead end job isn't just better than no job for me. It's a great thing. I don't need luxuries since I got disability.

I have a job going no where but pays well. God knows what i`ll do without it. Im relying on it but it isnt secure and if i do lose it i dare say i`ll lose me house =/

Nothing against regular blue-collar workers, but the contract types (those who work roofing, construction, insulation, etc.) are controlling assholes, which wouldn't be so bad if they weren't so fucking stupid to boot.

I haven't had to do that kind of work for a while, but when I did, it never ceased to amaze me how unfriendly and mean-spirited some of the people who do these jobs are.

I've worked other blue-collar jobs in the past, once at a cement plant. The guys there were a bit rough around the edges, but super cool, laid back and friendly.

If I ever had to go back to that type of work, I'd aim for a 9-5 or shift work at a stable company.

i work a shitty dead end job, i'm at Arby's right now, working shit to nothing, and have another job interview tomorrow at 2pm at wallmart. the only way i'm getting by right now is i'm setting goals.
my current goal is to save enough money for a bus ticket, next save money for rent at a place(hopefully with my step sis), thirdly save up enough for toiletries and random shit like that.
goal setting helps me, try it.

Dead end jobs suck, im goin back to school and tryin to get a new one. All a dead end job got me was spending my whole check on crack every payday cause i didnt make alot of money.

one thing that a logger told me on a weekend day in a lumber camp was "learn something and learn it well" . this rigging slinger was perhaps 20 years my senior . working high lead logging sucks flies off walls and he was so on the money with that remark .
after layoff i went back to my city trade and never looked back .

i have been in the same job now for 17 years and think there is no such thing as a dead end job - work to live dont live to work

I'm currently in college and working as a brick layer for a small masonry company laying brick, block, plastering stucco, concrete, etc.. work is hard, people r dicks, but the money is decent. you just gotta be a man and tough it up. if you let them get to you, they will. you just gotta grab ur balls and tough it up. you get used to it.
