Hi everyone,

I’m seeking advice and experiences from others who have dealt with TMJ. Over the past six months, I’ve developed extremely painful TMJ, which has resulted in very stiff movements in my neck and jaw, along with severe migraines and cluster headaches. Despite trying numerous non-opiate painkillers prescribed by my doctors, I haven’t found significant relief.

Recently, I was prescribed 200 mg of gabapentin to take at night before bed, which has helped a bit. I also take opiates for pain management due to other reasons and have a relatively high tolerance.

A couple of weeks ago, I received Botox injections specifically for TMJ, and it provided immediate relief. However, I had to go back for more treatment, and now, two weeks later, the pain has returned. Interestingly, the pain seems to have shifted to a different part of my face and jaw.

Has anyone experienced similar issues with TMJ, particularly with treatments like Botox? Any advice or shared experiences on managing this condition would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Why unfortunately?

With pot, the great thing about it's relief was that it has muscle relaxant and pain killing effects, and also gets me in touch with my body.

My diagnosis with my PT guy is myofascial pain disorder and my dentist says TMJ. If you have a hammer, the whole world is a nail. Anyway, my condition is chronic for many years now and I'm pretty sure that it has multiple causes.
Besides the TMJ, it's an imbalance due to repetitive, unergonomic working, etc., etc... I'm sure that by now you realize how little they really know about this shit, so you just do what works.

Anyway, exercises and stretching and whatever... Physical Therapy, is your friend. Don't give up after one physical therapist. I went through 2 before I found the premier guy in my area to treat this type of thing.
He's hands on, unlike many nowadays, but he is also a bit of an exercise Nazi. Do what you need to do and he'll go the extra mile for you. I've been seeing him once a week for many years now (till I get the 40 visits a year insurance normally gives). We're like these two guys...

With dental work and exercise I have actually stopped having the jaw clicking and popping. So, the 24/7 headaches are greatly improved. The jaw jamming into nerves going in through your ear hole causes a lot of the headaches.

Now, I am left with neck pain which can get rather severe and causes arm pain and other referred pain on that side due to nerve bundle aggravation. So, let's party? Hey, it is better than constant headaches as well.

ANYWAY. The "getting in touch with your body is one of the advantages of pot. I could, and do, get on the floor and do all kinds of crazy yoga type stretches and relaxation things which help a lot.
Without being high, even when I hadn't gotten high in decades, I don't seem to be able to relax into stretches and have to depend on active exercise. When high, I can stretch and relax muscles and really get in touch with the exact (often minor) muscle which is tight as fuck.

So, my rambling is to recommend the strain.
Indica is a *great* pain reliever and muscle relaxer whereas a Sativa has those properties but can also get me really in touch with my body and down on the floor stretching. Turn on the TV or some music and stretch around until I find that tightest spot and then just hold that. After a while I can simply relax that muscle like putting down a weight.

Edited to add: So, the strain varies as to what I need at the moment. Pot is pretty homogeneous nowadays, so there's that. Above, I was comparing a domestic outdoor sinse heavy on Indica to a red Mexican sinse which was Sativa. You can still find a strain which goes in one direction or the other if you shop around. Also, pot is pot. You can stretch fine on a heavy Indica if you get right to it after smoking and a Sativa still has pain relief and muscle relaxant properties.

Active exercise with the PT bands to improve body balance for 20 minutes every morning is something I've done for decades and is also needed.

I hope I didn't ramble to the point of confusion. Hey, I really feel for you. This condition can be debilitating and yet people don't take it too seriously.
