I was seeing my primary care doc for about a year now. He was nice and everything was going well. I was not aware of all the rules around pain management and pain prescriptions. So yesterday my doctor cut me off as his patient and of my pain meds also because another doctor prescribed me subutex. What happend was a lost my prescription and was told to go to the suboxon clinic just to get some until I could refill my pain medicine. Which was bad advice from a lady. So my doctor saw that I had another prescription and cut me off. I have no pain contract with the original primary doc but he saw it as I was doctor shopping. Which I didn't even know was a thing nor was I trying to doctor shop. What should I do to find a new doctor? Is it going to be a big struggle trying to continue my pain management meds?

The thing is YOUR responsible for your script whether it got lost or what. Your the one that has to keep a close eye on things PM doesn't mess around. I'm sorry for your loss. There really isn't much than to hope and find a new MD that will get you a referral to see a new PM doctor. I'm sorry for your misfortune. Life just sucks that way. try pharmer.org may seem to help you.

I'm sorry to hear about your struggles. My mom has lupus, and was dismissed for a dirty weed test, so I've got some experience with the situation. She ended up finding another doctor before her scripts ran out, but this may not be an option for you. Kratom can be a very valuable resource in your situation. It's a plant which contains an opioid, which isn't structurally the same as other opiate drugs, but it's still great for pain and will hold off withdrawal. It's legal in most places. It also doesn't show up on drug tests and I don't think it's ever killed anyone. It's relatively cheap and you may have to take a lot of capsules but it'll work for you. You can also make a tincture or tea if you find the powdered leaf matter hard to take. A quick online search will allow you to find kratom vendors.

Thank you. And so once a doctor cuts you off does that mean your flagged or will I still be able to go to a new doctor and continue my pain management

once you are flagged thats pretty much it unless someone takes a chance on you
you are responsible for your prescriptions they are not like hs hall passes
goodluck bud

If you are in the U.S. I believe it was in 2013 they have all pharmicies, doctors offices, and hospitals linked up on computer and they can tell your entire history what you've been prescribed when your last visit was. Maybe it's different with me because I'm on a pain contract but no pharmacy will give me another script if my doctor didn't write it(narcotics anyway).

My doc just had me switched to pain management which sucks because I like to smoke weed and my primary wouldn't give random screens I knew when they were coming ,now I've been told I'll get pissed everytime I go. Partys over, for me anyway!!!

This happened to me before. Keep in mind that in all states but one, mosurri, ALL controlled substances are recorded and a doctor can look this up ANY time he feels like it. It is best to assume that all doctors check this listing everytime they write a script. with that knowledge in mind, you should never, ever attempt to get "over writing" done, that is one controlled substance on top of another one unless you have ACUTE pain. for chronic pain, you are simply stuck. that being said, if you "lost" your pain script, that is considered your fault. You should treat these meds like cash money and not be cavalier with how you store them.

I will give you advice to rectify your situation, but if you intend to use it for illicit means, you'll only screw yourself over. doctors will catch on. that being said we all make mistakes.

So this is essentially what you can do to salvage your situation. restart by taking your diagnosis papers such as MRI and CT scans, and if you live near state lines, head over state lines because as far as I know, they do not share this information across state lines, it is soley a statewide thing. maybe in the tri state area in liberal north east new york new jersey area they do, but most places in the USA they do not. this means you can go across state lines and bring your medical records.

if i remember correctly, the procedure is as follows. first you need a referral from a GP, and then you go to a pain management doc. getting a referral is easy, since you just go to a new GP and ask for it after showing diagnostic criteria and then your meds. dont expect them to script anything off the bat, but you may get lucky and the doc may script you once to tide you over. it depends.

if any doctor requests that you sign a release of records - do NOT do it. this will show them why you were dismissed. simply find a new doctor that takes the records you hand them. from your own records you can omit various "red flags" that indicate a problem patient. it is rare they ask why you stopped seeing a doctor before, but you could just say "my GP told me that he did not want to script for chronic pain as he felt i needed a specialist for it" which is a common thing that happens all the time and no one will question it. if they push for seeing documentation of this, find another doctor.

after you get a referral to a pain management doctor, just go there and show them empty boxes /containers of what you were taking and that is it. repeat question of why you stopped seeing GP as "because they felt i should go to a pain clinic." with already being referred, it should be no issue. stay calm, act polite and if refused, simply repeat process until you get new compliant doctor. never protest or make a scene, just respectfully say ok, leave, go back to GP who referred, and then start again.

it may be a hassle, but as long as you arent continuing to get subutex, you go out of state, and you act calm, it should not be an issue to get a new doc to script you what is needed. that being said if you are doc shopping or trying to score subutex and pain meds outside of the same state and get found out, it is a federal trafficking across state lines offense, which means that you are effectively going to be procesuted as a drug dealer in a federal case. ive seen it happen before, don't be stupid. be thankful you have one doctor who gives you anything at all. you could get nothing.

That is a terrible situation truly. You really should have contacted your doctor immediately once you realized you lost it. Unfortunately ignorance to the law or rules is never a valid excuse in almost any situation where there are actual regulations that everyone follows. It is a sad situation that this has occurred but given all of the issues regarding pain clinics and everything in the news about a "rising heroin epidemic" and the "pill mills" "over prescribing meds killing patients" etc that is why they have such a zero tolerance thing. So you can claim you didnt know it would directly effect you this way but there is no way you couldnt have known about the united states recent issues with over prescribing pain meds.

I would see if you can get a new doctor but definitely look into things like Kratom in the mean time. I really hope it gets resolved quickly and hopefully others can see how fragile their prescriptions are and how they will inevitably end at some point either through a direct cause or something like this. Good luck.

Thank you guys this is very useful information. Before he dismissed me he did refer me to a pain specialist so I do have the referal still and have not seen them. Would it be a good idea to see the pain specialist or would they see that the doctor who referred me has dismissed me?

As I see it, with a new place you'll be able to tell your story and maybe it'll fall on understanding ears. Sounds like you were "out" before you could even tell your tale, or he just didn't care. With some luck, you'll be able to find a PM clinic but be aware, they will probably make you sign a contract. They most likely will enforce it to the letter. Please read it carefully and follow it! What you did is a clear violation of nearly all PM docs trust (this is what they would say) and there is little leeway when one breaks the rules. Give it a go, you'll probably be able to find a new doc.

Kratom will show up on test. Family member had drug test at doctors office, doctor was verrry upset and demanded to know what they had taken. Doc said it shows up as really really odd result.
