Do your non-druggie friends ever use you as a source of knowledge about drugs?

yes, even my using buddies go to me for questions. it's really upsetting being the only person in my circle who really has much knowledge on stuff like this, I swear I'm not a know it all or trying to put myself on a pedestal but I guess I just like to learn about drugs and people sometimes ask questions just to make me happy, they know I love answering questions. this was super scattered I'm sorry

Alright, I know that this thread is from 2014, and I'm a little drunk, but I don't care.

I used to be as ignorant as many other people when it came to drug information. Then, I discovered the wonders of the internet. We are, quite literally, living in the age of information, yet people continue to ignore it. So once I realized how misinformed the general public was about the use of drugs, I took it upon myself to rectify facts.

I have been active on this site for a couple years, but only made an account this year (I think; like I said, pretty drunk). But once I learned the truth about drugs, and how they affect people, I felt obligated to inform my friends (who use drugs) about what I had learned. Things as simple as what "benzos" are, or how you should test all the LSD or MDMA you buy. It's honestly very important to me. As one drug user to another, I want my friends and family to be as safe as possible when using chemicals. So I felt obligated to inform them.

I have seen the result of what I have told my friends as well. They listen and understand what I am saying. Thus, leading them to do their own research on said chemicals and come to their own logical conclusions, which is wonderful. This thought leads me to the saying, the fact that this website exists is fantastic. It is a wonderful source of information and a gateway of knowledge into the world of drugs. Everyone that uses drugs, even casually, should be informed.

Sometimes though I didnt really hang out with people who did/do drugs. It was a solitary thing for me and private. But Id like to add that you should appreciate ppl who ask you for advice on things they know youre into. Be it drugs, music, cars etc.. Shows they respect your opinion, i.e you.

Always. Everyone in my group of friends / randos know to ask me about this and that, to wit I'm more than willing to help. People need to educate themselves, yet, they do not.. I actually like helping others in this scenario, without my knowledge (Seriously NOT TRYING TO COME OFF AS A MARTYR, OR A KNOW IT ALL!) but out of the literal thousands of times it has happened, I either saved someone from doing something very fucking dumb, or enlightened them so they can have that knowledge..

pz <3 n thizz to all!

Mines below average. =[

Thizz in peace my nikka
Love you Mikey see you there

My mom. Whenever she is prescribed a medication she doesn't know she asks me what it is for, what it does etc. :D

Some of my friends ask me for info about drugs/meds as well.

I view myself as the smartest one in the room in most rooms (earned arrogance i assure you ;) ) and as such I only lend my opinion when directly asked. I could know why the sky is blue and not tell anyone because if they want to believe its the ocean or whatever they can and I have said it time and time again so they all know "most people do not care to know the truth or the answer to the question they want to confirm their beliefs and because i have answers and not opinions i do not want to start fights or make people feel inferior or wrong." This applies to all areas in life because as other people have said people dont want to learn most of the time.

When i was young it was a different story i thought the world wanted to learn now i stay quiet unless asked. Also i dont really have drug using friends anymore, hell its even debatable as to whether i have friends anymore :) Also because it is widely understood i am very knowledgeable be it drugs or general science no one thinks of me as some "know it all druggie" it also helps that i am approaching 30

I think one of the most important aspects about being a smart person is knowing that the world doesnt care for it and you need to limit how much you put out there. There is still a lot of "fearing that which cant be understood" so if you are not like most people odds are people will judge you for it and they will judge you unfairly in response to their inability to understand how much you know. So you get labeled a "druggie" or a "know it all" or something maybe nerd like. It is important to view what you say from the 3rd person and try to think about how much they know about what you are saying to tailor any answer to their abilities. IE the girl buying shoes does not care about single or double substituted amino groups, they just dont.

I am sort of the designated expert on NPS issues at my workplace (public sector psychiatric hospital), on an informal basis, I am not shy about the fact that I know a lot about the subject and that psychopharmacology, and it's abuses, remains an interest and a bit of a hobby of mine ... as goes to my own use, though, I do freely admit former use and taking psych meds myself (i.e., basically the truth, although not telling the full extent of my crazy past, keeping it vague.)

I'm gonna sound like kind of a dick here, but I know that I have a pretty vast amount of knowledge when it comes to drugs. I study neuropsychology in my spare time and have a pretty good understanding of what happens when you take a specific drug, as well as a lot of experience under my belt. These sort of topics are interesting to me, so I seek out all the knowledge I could possibly find.

The other day in Sociology my group and I were sharing drug experiences (as opposed to doing our actual work) with each other. This couple was telling us about their shrooms trips and how their craziest one went. The girl then asked which one we thought was stronger. I answered with what must have been Chinese to them, explaining the difference between the chemicals and how they work and ultimately saying that it's a matter of perception. I got some pretty weird stares.

But yeah, people who know me well enough usually bring their drug questions to me. I'd be willing to bet that I have also done a larger variety of drugs than almost anyone in my area. Everyone else around here thinks they're trap lords and only smokes shitty weed and takes Xans with Chief Kief blaring in the background.

Yeah my friends always call me if they're going to "try" a drug, get high, a friend trying something, a friend doing some combo, or they or a friend is "ODing". o__O.

It's weird because I'm really rather undisciplined and have a ton of respect for people who can combine the practical and the academic in a professional way and not be full of shit. I try to read what they have to say when I have questions. I'm just a self medicating drug enthusiast with thirty some years under my belt and a fairly good nose for bullshit and knows how to fact check. So people come to me when something new comes to them or they have questions, it's flattering but unsettling.

as a matter of fact, yes... it makes me feel awkward as fuck though because i'm deeply ashamed of my interest in drugs

Yes, I've had friends, professionals in the medical field, ask me about drug interactions and contraindications. I give them anecdotal evidence...lol
