Do you think our minds are connected in ways which we can't really even begin to explain?

For instance do you think that you can just think of a particular person and you will pop up in their mind? Perhaps they were thinking of you first.

I've just had a lot of strange experiences in my life where I might be thinking of something and then I find out someone else was thinking of the same thing. Perhaps I think of someone and just a few minutes later they give me a call.

Thoughts?

very likely just coincidence,

for a more theoretical (and related) philosophical discussion, however, see intersubjectivity. which mostly deals with shared feelings (i.e. empathy), but can be extended to shared thoughts. Also notice that your suggestion "we were thinking the same" is a very problematic identity statement in philosophy. Are you saying "A=A" (i.e. this tree equals itself) or "A_1=A_2" (i.e. this tree is identical to this other tree over there).

omg i was thinking the exact same thing !!!!! jk ; )

the way i see it is that we are all connected thru consciousness
consciousness is like the canvas on which the universe is painted
but then is consciousness conscious ? well it is through us, not by itself
so in some way we are all one organism and somehow sometimes it seems like we do experience moments of synchronicity

you might want to look into rupert sheldrake
his take on it is pretty interesting and is probably going in the right direction imo

Spooky when it happens, I figure whatever has subconciously reminded you of them, has reminded them of you.

I've always believed there is some kind of connection between people's minds, even way before I ever experimented with any drugs. After experimenting, I believe it even more so!

The coincidence thing happens to everyone, and it is spooky when it happens. However, a person really starts to wonder WTF is up when it starts happening more, and more, and more, and then daily, and then multiple times daily, and then actually to a point where you get somewhat familiarized with the 'telepathic feeling', and you start to actually understand when it comes, and then you expect a certain thing to happen, and then IT DOES happen. THAT shit freaks me out, but more so it intrigues the hell out of me.

There have certainly been occasions where I get, for lack of a better description, a 'sensation' that reminds me of the other times coincidences have happened, somewhat related to the deja vu feeling. When I get that feeling, sometimes I can associate it with some level of telepathy, and then whatever it is that I thought might be about to happen, literally happens exactly as I pictured it, sometimes immediately. I even called it out to my girlfriend once and almost made her shit herself. We were driving, I got the feeling, I nodded to the car driving in the next lane on the highway and said "Watch this guy" not really even knowing why I said it, it sort of just came out. Not 10 seconds later, he swerves straight into my lane with no signal and almost hits me, I had to jam on my brakes and slam my horn. If I hadn't been specifically paying attention to that car I wouldn't have seen him and we would've gotten into a highway accident. This was fairly recent and is not all too uncommon with me.

Believe me or not! :)

Why do you think that is so strange? I think many of us are thinking about the same kinds of things much of the time. Sex, drugs, music, work, school, pop culture, etc.

I'm quite certain that minds are connected whether we are always conscious of it or not. Too many experiences point toward that to believe they are all coincidental. Although if I were delusional I suppose I wouldn't really know it.

I think "Mind" is a dimension in itself, and it is somewhat responsive and dynamic in ways that I can only intuit and not verbalize on paper. I say "think"/IMO.. but really I know it to be true for it has happened soooo many times that I can not begin to count, even since early childhood especially between family members, in particular my mother, but also between friends. I can "feel" the effects occuring in that dimension.. it's like it is hiding behind the phenominal worldview that is infront of my point of observation, but I would be at a loss to pinpoint its location objectively lol..

I've had friends who I haven't had contact with for years suddenly pop into my head, then later on that day I find out they've sent me a message at around that time. Then there is shared hallucinations on psychedelics which i'm sure many here have experienced. Then there is direct telepathy, which me and close friends have achieved whilst sober a couple of times.

There is also the ability to actually get inside a persons Mind.. it is a known ability in Zen. You use it to transmit experience directly to the other person, a very powerful tool. I think Indian yogi's also use this ability, but usually it is in a negative way, to enslave a student to the desires of the master (there is a youtube person i know who had this happen to him.. sounds absolutely terrifying)

Maybe I'm boring, but I'm more of a "seeing is believing" type of person. I know what I know, and the rest I don't. Sometimes it's cool to imagine, though. When I was a kid I used to imagine that in the future we would have devices that would connect people to each other so that they could share a dream. How cool would it be to dream with someone else? Pretty cooool.

I think you'd be suprised if you tried some telepathy with someone you know well and trust. Simple game.. think of a particular object or obvious visual item eg a banana, dog, chair. Have the other person try to guess what you are thinking whilst you hold only that image in your mind. Imagine it visually and verbally in your head whilst looking at the other person. I tried this once with a close friend.. we guessed each others correctly. He freaked out, I smiled.

or even understand? probably.

related reading: Does anyone find this strange?.

read the linked thread. to some it's utterly mind-blowing. to others, quite mundane.

ive had it connect with somebody when tripping before, it was magical

I think its more then possible. Or maybe we have the ability to do more with are mind then we know.

right now we are connecting our minds through this medium called the internet, and as we go along we are gonna get better and better at bringing that technology to a omnipresent level, by then we will literally have our mind connected like borgs

but then how about birds being able to fly south without a gps and a map
it can instinctively do all that shit without knowing the fuck they do
they are connecting to something
that ability comes from their gene and upbringing
idk about birds and how much upbringing they need but i know that some insect can bypass that part and go at it with no parental guidance involve, the more limited your brain is the less need for a software that is created through accumulation of shared pattern habits

but as primates we do spend a whole lot of time learning and upgrading that software to be able to generate new ways to deal with reality, to be more flexible, to make us more apt at survival by being able to create new mechanism to cope with whatever the species is facing without having to wait for a lucky mutation

and as evolved human with a millions things in our head we easily lost connection with the matrix, with our natural instinct and what it connects with, our gene and energy field behind that
but behind it all we are all connected to the source which we came from, but its not on a conscious level, and im not sure to what extent we can connect to that source, but its there and we do connect to it now and then, be it hazardous correlation or unconscious ability
but some psychic are really good at knowing stuff about you they shouldnt know, they do connect with the matrix to some spooky extent

i remember on mushroom thinking or having the feeling of what it could be like if i knew everybody on planet earth, if every time you meet someone you would know their name, and the more you would feel them the more you would know everything you care to know just as good as if you were them
that felt pretty good
that would be a pretty cool trait to evolve
and im not dismissing the possibility that we could get there at some point, if not and if i look at the future technology it sure seem like its gonna bring something similar

What do u mean by connected? How specifically connected?

Specific could be like a connectedness as in astral projection. For example, if i astrally projected and wanted to visit someone, would I have to actually know his/her address, or could I just fly there bc of our connectedness?

Just by being human, and sharing Western culture and our use of technology, would make us more connected than to someone from a tribe in a remote part of Africa. However, I do remember reading research report of asking people to draw a picture or describe visions seen in a dmt trip and they all involved a common creature, even if that creature was not in their cultural vocabulary or ever seen in their life. Thus, confirming some kind of connectedness via dmt experiences.

If u believe in Eckhart tolle's idea that reality is humanity's shared belief system, then in that way we are connected. For example, the more people believe that women over 50 can have healthy babies, perhaps that will be a reality, or that people who are 80 or 90 years old can still be active. Sometimes science has a way of proving ideas or phenomena that was once deemed impossible.

I believe that there is a 6th sense between mothers and daughters, not sure about fathers and sons, and also between people who are close. Like when something bad happens, they may feel something in their gut or awake from sleep, even if far away.

we have causation based brains, so i guess what causing these coincidences could be "connectedness"? Would "thinking" we are all connected mean its incorporated into a belief system, or even systematic belief thoughts? idk, as it could hardly be proven, but could be validated through experiences(drugged?) which may have negative effects with mental illness like manias.

Our social nature conditions nearly intangible interconnections, between mind and mind via connection to shared social realities, ie intersubjectivity. This cooccurred with the development of neurology, , which physically implements connections to the social realm (eg through mirror neurons*).

*: A mirror neuron will respond similarly whether one performs a given type of action or observes another doing so. Thus, in terms of processing information, we have something resembling empathy, at least formally. Think of linkage between mirror neurons and muscles governing facial expression...

I would call it more than coincidence. I will look at my cellphone 5 seconds before I receive one , because I just have some thought about a person; and lo-and-behold, the person I was thinking about is calling. (This only happens to me with my VERY VERY close friends and my father, but it happens regularly enough to give me the shivers and get thinking.) AND , They do not call me during the same time of day or w/e, it is very random , and the sensations I receive are very eerie.

Don't call me crazy. BUT there may be more than meets the eye . =/ sounds crazy tho don't it =/..lol
