Do you think drugs cause you to think on a higher level of consciousness?

Before I started doing drugs I never used to think "outside of the box" so to speak. Like most users I started on weed and binged on almost everything but like meth and H. Also haven't done hard hallucinogens but DXM. Anyways I found that my thinking became more complex and I would have lots of strange ideas being drawn from my head. Nonetheless I've become a non-believer in the catholic God and I rebel more than usual and tend to use my insight more. I've only really found that drugs like opiates and hallucinogens would make me think a lot. Not really the benzos or the booze. But I've done Vicodin once and I'm a regular user of OTC codeine syrup on the weekends with marijuana as a background drug haha. But Dxm, weed and codeine really make me think a lot about what I think to be intelligent ideas. So in conclusion I've found myself to be somewhat of a philosopher nowadays. What is your insight

Maybe at first, like when I first tried weed, LSD, shrooms etc... Drugs opened me up to a whole new exciting world and I wanted to try them all.

Nowadays with all the benzo's and booze on a daily basis I feel like a zombie. When I first started doing Meth I would feel like I was smarter, faster, and better than anyone else. I only get that feeling from it if I smoke a lot which I've been trying not to do because I'm sick of it bringing me down. Just my 2 cents.

Definitely so for nootropics and some stimulants, lol. Put me on 5mg Sunifiram and 30mg meth, I'll design a fission reactor in one night =D

Probably also true for small doses of weed or shrooms, but large doses overall impair my ability to do constructive things. Last time I smoked I was on selegiline, and got so high I could barely eat pancakes properly.

Benzos definitely not ;)

It's such a cliche thing for a drug user to say, but I think drugs can help in that regard.

I mean I'd like to believe drugs make us smarter, but I don't think that's the truth. What I do believe is that some drugs (leaning more towards cannabis and psychedelics here, though it would vary for everyone) can be capable of shaping our psyches in various ways. It may not always/necessarily be a good way, but occasionally (or perhaps frequently, who knows), it might make you a little more mature, a little more empathetic or engaged with higher ideas, a little better off in life in general. I do believe this, though good luck arguing that point with an anti-drugger.

Most of the time i'd say excessive or frequent drug use is just a mixed bag though, a few improvements here, a few damages there.

Very infrequent drug use on the other hand (like 1 - 10 times a year), nothing but positives!

Weed gives me the ability to look at a deep and profound subject from a completely new dimension. Maybe I would have looked at it differently without weed, but weed makes me think a different way, every time. Unlike a lot of people I can remember and still appreciate this insight.

I will say this though. My ++++ acid trip and my insane peyote trip are 2 of the most intense, spiritual, life changing experiences I've ever had. Especially the peyote. I'm a different person after that experience, in a better way.

psychedelics, opiate addiction, and dealing with people in the drug world I believe have made me wiser, and given me a more spiritual view on life (I'm being very liberal with the word 'spiritual', meaning something more vague and indescribable than being religious or whatever it is those new-age people in venice do), but i would never claim to think on a "higher level of consciousness" than most people. that seems a little ignorant, IMO.

Most of my experience is with psychedelics. I do think they open up consciousness, increase novelty and introspection, and give you a point of view that you wouldn't otherwise have. There has been learning and activities I've done that I wouldn't have considered if I hadn't done psychedelics, so I have to give them some credit.

As for "higher" consciousness, I don't believe that any kind of consciousness is superior. I see "higher" in terms of being able to raise oneself up to higher levels of personal potential. It's about challenging your own limits, and not comparing yourself to anyone else. In that sense, psychs have helped me to experience higher consciousness.

drugs have allowed me to think differently, yet saying they've made me smarter or more able to think at a higher level... I can't say that.

reactions to drugs, while predictable, are unique to an individual. so any deductions made about their effects should be on a personal level. taking this into consideration, i don't think i am more or less smart since or because of my drugs use, and if i am less smart, it is because the time it took to do the drugs took away from time i would have spent learning. not because of any particular drug itself.

my knowledge of and compassion for humanity has increased as i've gotten older, but i also can't say if that's the drugs use or me just being older.
