Do you like normal music too?

We have the radio on at work and I was singing along to some song or other and a colleague turned to me and asked "Do you like normal music too?" as if liking any form of electronic music prevents you liking anything more mainstream.
This got me thinking because really I have very broad tastes in music, from classical to pop, techno to happyhardcore... even country at times. Chances are if you name a genre I’ll like a number of pieces, even if in general it’s a genre I don’t favour.
So what about you? Are you essentially a music snob and only listen to one genre or cluster of genre’s refusing to let anything else sully your ears? Will you only listen to electronica, dismissing mainstream pop as crap? Or do you find yourself with eclectic tastes, a bit from here and there or something in-between? Is there anything you point blank won’t listen to?

I find myself singing along to the radio as well. Before electronic music.. I was a huge fan of grunge and most alternative music. The love's still there but it doesn't give me the motivation and euphoric feeling electronic music does.
I find that electronic music is something i never get bored of. :)
Its just good to feel 'normal' sometimes and bop along to the top 40 hits on the radio.

good music is good music.
i can appreciate good alternative or even pop music, but i dont really actively go out and find it or listen to it.
i find enough variety amongst prog house, breaks, tech house, house, techno and hip hop to keep me happy.

I may not actively listen to every genre of music, but i have an appreciation for all good music.
Having said that...my taste in music is extremely varied, there are too many genres to list. Our music collection pretty much covers almost every style.

My musical taste are very very broad.
Electronic - Deep House/Progressive House, Drum n Bass, Breaks
Death and Gothic Metal
Gaelic/Celtic
Pink Floyd :)
The Wiggles - hey when you have kids then we'll see who laughing ;)

Yeah, truly. Like Kitty I have a wide range of musical tastes, which includes (yes, I dare say it: R&B). When I don't go to rave/rave clubs I spend the off weekends at a variety of places that reflect that. I like slipping in and out of different scenes as effortlessly as a condom-covered penis at an orgy.
I like the differences between scenes, how each one has their own language, way of dressing, dance and so on. It's all nightlife, it's all good. While the rave scene is the most fun and friendly (the gay scene comes close), you can find fun people everywhere; unfortunately a few drunk aggros usually ruin it for most.

I think only listening to electronica would be depriving yourself of some brilliant musical experiences.
I listen to JJJ, classical, old classics like the Beatles blue album, some folk, jazz, soul, funk etc. I used to be into some heavier stuff (old Tool and NIN) but most heavy stuff these days just seems to be some talentless tool yelling into a mic - where's the poetry?
And I recommend everyone to go see a live orchestra performance - choose carefully and you won't be disappointed.

yep, i love most stuff. i'm a *huge* pearl jam fan, and i love a whole bunch of 'alt' bands - nirvana, radiohead tsp etc. but i really get into a lot of other stuff too. the only things i can really say i dislike is country (ew :) and 'pop' music (as in...britney et al) but even then, i do like some of britney's songs, i just dislike it in principle :)

These days, I have trouble listening to music that does not have a beat.
Most things are just to slow.
But, I am still a fan of all quality music. Love the old Tool, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, VAST etc.
Have the latest Queens of the Stone Age.
Everything else is DANCE.

As a musician in a band (ok, a drummer - but still, it's SORT of like being a musician ;) ,) i believe it's important to have an appreciation of all music, even if it't not in my prefered genre(s) of music. Whether i like it or not is a bit different - i don't LIKE Michael Jackson (for example) but i appreciate that his has musical ability. I won't say a band is crap because i don't like them, i will say a band is crap if they cannot play well...
To answer the original question, i actually listen to more "normal music"(sic) than electronica, so i guess that makes me the odd one out here. ;) I listen to so much different stuff that i won't bother to list the genres, but basically anything that isn't manufactured music... or country music... GOD how i HATE country music. :)

Music has always been a mood thing for me. I really love nearly any form of house music, but even they have their time and place.
I'll still sing along to a cheezey commercial pop occassionally. I don't mind a bit of classical, jazz or geniuine old R&B. You wouldn't see me buy (or download) the stuff though.

Although my preference would be for electronic music, I still occasionally listen to stuff like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, etc. I find it pretty slow compared to the other stuff i listen to, but I can still appreciate that its damn good talent and enjoy it...

what do you call a person who hangs around with a group of musicians?
a drummer.... *BOOM BOOM*

Man i whacked on Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon last night for the first time ever. Id been meaning to do it ever since i bought the album at some garage sale years ago. So i got real whacked and sat down in a dark room listening to it - WOW!! :D
If trance didn't get it's influence from Pink Floyd, call me Floyd and paint me pink.
As for non-electronic stuff, guitar/band driven music that i used to enjoy and even the stuff today bores the shit out of me. I spose it is just MY lifes musical progression. Who knows that could be next?

yeah i listen to EVERYTHING !
ive been threw many identities...
used to be mr homeboy, heavy metal freak, mr R&B.
now i just dress normal and listen to anything, lol

Oh my god Daimo, for about 3/5 of a millisecond there, i was actually hurt. ;)
I've heard that one SO many times - lol
Here are some for you:

-To translate for the drummer.
What do you call a drummer who breaks up with their s/o?

What does a drummer use a contraception?
-Their personality...

b4 i discovered electronic music i was a punk girl and actually gotta say im still a punk girl by heart :D
also love alternate(whatever the fuck that is these days i dunno ...to me its anything i cant really put in a genre thats already there)
also like rock, classical, country (well kasey chambers mainly not all the old country really) ummm i dunno heaps of diff stuff
what i really dont like would be easier to write about i guess and that would be really heavy death metal, jazz and most r and b (its so fucking boring) *yawn*
but the best music 4 me that hits my soul, mind and body would be
PSYTRANCE!!!!
