Do you beleive in ghosts?

I think ghosts are a real phenomenon. But I don't think they are what we popularly think they are. What exactly they are, I am not sure. But I doubt they are dead people's disembodied souls, because I don't see 'soul' working that way.

I have witnessed a ghost as least once. My wife and I both saw a poltergeist that picked up two aerosol cans in our bathroom, gently moved them over, and placed them down somewhere different. She and I will never forget it -- I shiver just typing this. This is not the first time Mrs. Doors has witnessed strange movement of things in her vicinity -- she seems to be one of those people who just seems to attract paranormal phenomena. But this is the one only one I was witness to.

I'm just happy I've never seen a white, humanoid shape with a distinct face. That would make me go completely apeshit.

There is absolutely no scientific evidence to suport the existance of ghots.
If I recall, the JREF(James Randi Educational Foundation) offers a one-million-dollar prize to anyone who can show, under proper observable conditions, evidence of any paranormal, supernatural, or occult power or event. Ghosts clearly fall under these criteria. To date, no one has passed even the preliminaries.

If I was to ever see a "ghost" or what I perceived to be a ghost, I would seriously question my sanity(even more than I do now), as ghosts are clearly nonsense.

^I agree.

Please, I would love it if someone could give me a reasonable explanation for the existence of ghosts. I am open minded. But it just seems like silliness. I honestly think you have to be slightly crazy to believe in them.

Okay- I am sure I will be blown off like a nut job by some people but I have seen many ghosts. I don't understand exactly but.....I saw my grandfather a few times.....I have seen my great grandmother....I have seen this woman who my mother told me I talked to/about when I was little....I have seen some other unknown people and the one that always gets me is this woman at the end of my grandmothers bed before she died. I think that it is the energy or spirit that we sense and our minds put the body to recognize the energy, or soul.....
When I saw my grandfather he has been older-like i remember him. I would imagine in the afterlife, if we kept any sort of physical form, it would be young;) i don't know. But I believe in ghosts- have experienced them-What was the encounter you think you may have had?

i took a photo of one or more i dunno how many

the three of us had cameras that night. this smear/smudge effect was registered on all three cameras. this is the most dramatic one.

I have a story that frightened me to death and i cant explain it.

Ok it started 4 weeks before the actual sighting, i was about to go to sleep in my dorm room "i was still fully concious" when my whole body went cold and i felt very strange for around thirty seconds, next thing you know i was frozen i couldnt move a bone in my body. I tried to scream for help but i could'nt this lasted about ten seconds and stopped abrubtly. I thought i had just had a siezure, i was so scared i was about to drive to the hospital. I couldnt sleep the rest of the night due to fear.

This same phenomonon happened about once a week for four weeks when the extremely frightening sighting happened. This time i was trying to nap in my dorm room and the Siezure like syptoms happened but faded very quickly, i was used to it by now so i just made my way through it the next thing i know it happened again but stronger than ever. As this happened the sheets on my bad started moving up and down rapidly like something was under them. I WAS SCARED SHTITLESS i tried to close my eyes to escape it and I did but they were forced open and i look up and there is something standing over me looking like a Gauntlet. To be honest but i didn't want to The fucking thing looked like the death creature. It stood over me for 10 seconds... I couldnt see a face so i took it as a warning.

It has been about two weeks since the sighting and the siezure/freezing has only happened once but it was very minor. The strangest thing is I told my friends about it and that's when it stopped happening.

Since this has happened i have slowed down my drug intake, and have not driven under any type of intoxication. I took the sighting as a warning. So since it stopped maybe i cheated death.

If anybody has had anything similar happen to them please Private Message me. I find the symptoms of the frozen body very strange... Maybe its so i didn't run and let anybody know but this is all very strange. Before this happened i used to watch those ghost shows on the discovery channel and think it was just a bunch of morons trying to get publicity but now i have a belief in ghosts.

one quick story i have is -

my wife and i got a ride home from the a friend/neighbor, she has two kids that where being watched by a neighbor girl in her teens. it was a long drive, a bit less then 2 hours, and when got around 20 minutes from home she began to tell us about how where the corner of the hall way meets the living room facing the couch she saw a little indian girl in a white leather dress, with two flowers in her hair, they looked at each other for she said was maybe a few minutes, then she disappeared.

we get back to her house and the babysitter and the kids were all on the couch holding each other., totally freaked, the girl was OMG OMG im so glad you guys are back and wanted to go out side, she described the same little indian girl in the same location, just standing there staring at them.

Dude, I know what I saw. I didn't hallucinate it -- I was completely sober unless you count a can of Rockstar, and two people can testify to it. Note I'm not making any claims about exactly what it was or why it happened. All I'm saying is, my experiences have led me to believe there are layers and dimensions to reality beyond our ken.

Randi's prize will never be won. Natural phenomena have natural causes, that can be quantified and measured and replicated, given the right combination of factors. Seems to me this wouldn't apply to supernatural things, for things 'out of this world'. If something was even partly caused by forces unknown (or unknowable) to us, accounting for it entirely with things already known to us, let alone replicating it under laboratory conditions, would prove nigh on impossible. Those who've seen behind the curtain of surface reality in some way, even for just an fleeting moment, have no need for validation from academic scientists anyway.

sublimestateofmind, that's actually a diagnosable medical condition you have. Google 'sleep paralysis'. It's what used to be called an Incubus (or a Succulus for girls. I THINK I have that right.), and categorized as an evil spirit that had sex with your soul while you slept.

i believe in ghosts, but this is not a ghost experience. this is sleep paralysis.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis

it's happened to me many times.

And you know this is a ghost(s) because...?
ghosts/ufos/albinos call it what you want. something weird is caught on all three roles of film, from three difference cameras and developed in three different areas of the planet (one in PA, another NC and mine in Sydney).

I used to have that sensation a lot when I was about 19. I'd also have bizarre dreams where I'd be being rogered by demon-like creatures but have to admit it was extremely pleasurable --- the orgasms were out of this world :P

my experiences have led me to believe there are layers and dimensions to reality beyond our ken.

Then how have you perceived these layers or dimensions? I have a personal conviction about this, but it doesn't involve what is beyond.

It doesn't seem to me that you are creating a distinction between natural and supernatural phenomena. and if you put it that way I think it would be difficult to characterize any type of phenomenon as supernatural.

Those who've seen behind the curtain of surface reality in some way, even for just an fleeting moment, have no need for validation from academic scientists anyway.

I dunno man.. I thought this for a little while until a study was released about six months with evidence and a theory that supported the exact conviction I held. It seems to me that science explains, can be interpretted to explain, or will explain everything. But really that was the only conviction I held from prodding beneath the surface. I honestly think it is makes you go crazy.

Didn't a user on BL record some crazy trips deep beyond the surface with DMT? I think I remember him posting things about spirits. I have no idea what the threads were called, but they were very popular.

Also, don't a lot of people have spirit experiences with most tryptamines? I generally stay away from them because DMT and shrooms make me feel sick.
But the last time ate shrooms I lying sick I felt compltely shitty. And I went upstairs to get as far away from friends as possible. I dunno I just felt disgusting and agitated. So I was all alone, and I remember feeling very spooked or frightened. Like being a little kid afraid of the dark or something. And then I closed my eyes and I got this extremely vivid and clear closed-eye hallucination of an orange alien touching my forehead, and my forehead felt cold. It was one of the weirdest things to ever happen to me.

I've always thought of ghosts as somewhat of an alteration of our perception of reality. Most sightings occur at night where the possibility of seeing something not for what it really is is rather high.

The reason i think this is about 2 years ago i was sleeping in my room, pitch black apart from a bit of light from my computer piercing the darkness.. i awoke in the early hours of the morning to see a very dark figure at the end of my bed (im getting shivers just typing this) from what i recall it looked somewhat like a very fat person with a hat on sitting in a chair watching me.. all i could see was the outline.

This scared the absolute shit out of me, never had i been more scared of anything in my life. I kept my eyes locked on this 'creature' as i slowly got out of bed and made a desperate attempt for the light switch.. i turned the light switch on and to my relief it was just my TV on the tv stand.. 'duh...'

But because i believed what i saw, it truly terrified me.. which lead me to believe its all about how you perceive reality.. darkness often alters this perception, which is why most sightings are witnessed at night.

Im certain people have witnessed things in daylight.. even things that surpass the realms of reality but again.. leading back to 'Seeing is believing' i'd have to see it myself in order to believe it.

My stepmom and her mom absolutely believe in ghosts and say that they see them too. They say that the house they live in has a man who stands at the door. They aren't afraid of any of it, because they say that they have always seen this stuff.

One of the really freaky stories they told me was the time they were staying at a place together when my stepmom was younger. They both knew there was a spirit in the house, but since they are used to seeing these things, they were not scared. One day, the spirit was angry, and they claim that a knife was thrown at the wall. It scared them so badly that they packed their bags and left and found another place to live. They don't talk about it with anyone but family, so it's not like they go around saying they see spirits. When they tell you about these things, they talk to you like it's no big deal...they say they see it all the time and the spirit that is in the house is passive, so they aren't afraid.

I go back and forth with this question all the time. My stepmom emphatically believes because she says she sees them. I've had some strange things happen to me, but I'm hesitant to say I believe. I want to, but nothing has ever 100% shown me. For me, I've had dreams that come true, and incidences where I get reeeeally cold and suddenly scared (no sleep paralysis, because I can move). It's like suddenly it's freezing in my room.

For me, I'm slowly losing my faith in these things. My ex-BF claimed he could see auras. He said I was red/pink and sometimes yellow. Before he died, he was losing his faith though too, but he was also into some heavy drugs.

Then how have you perceived these layers or dimensions? I have a personal conviction about this, but it doesn't involve what is beyond.

I don't know. May never know. It's fun to imagine and speculate, though, based on people's anecdotal experiences.

It doesn't seem to me that you are creating a distinction between natural and supernatural phenomena. and if you put it that way I think it would be difficult to characterize any type of phenomenon as supernatural.

I suppose it's a matter of perspective more than anything. If what I'm living in now is actually a simulation, that doesn't change the fact that for the entity named [MyDoorsAreOpen], it IS none other than reality. Likewise if a goldfish is swimming in a bowl with his little goldfish mind, he has really no way of fully understanding the big distorted face that appears beyond the place he can swim, and his relationship to it.

I dunno man.. I thought this for a little while until a study was released about six months with evidence and a theory that supported the exact conviction I held. It seems to me that science explains, can be interpretted to explain, or will explain everything. But really that was the only conviction I held from prodding beneath the surface. Really? What were this study's raw data and independent variables? Who did this study? I'm incredulous that 'Science explains everything' could ever be a scientific (i.e. falsifiable) statement. I agree that science is capable of offering a testable, falsifiable hypothesis concerning any phenomenon. But that's not saying much, because that's just a banal statement of what science does. If the hypothesis IS falsified, or the data needed to falsify it never become available, that still can (and does) leave a lot unexplained.

I'd be interested in [re]reading this, if you dig up a link.

I've felt the presence of entities while in psychedelic or dissociative induced states, but have never had such direct contact. I think that would freak me out.

What do albinos have to do with anything? Albinism is a real disorder, tons of people have it. You actually think albinos are akin to ghosts? 8(

I'm not an expert in photography, but that could be any number of things.

I do too, but it's not because something I experienced led to me believe it. There are many dimensions that we cannot observe or interact with, but as far as I know, these dimensions are occupied exclusively by subatomic particles or perhaps things even smaller. Correct me if I'm wrong though, I dont claim to completely grasp quantum/theoretical physics so I could be mistaken.
I find it hard to believe that a person's wayward soul could drift in and out of these dimensions without causing some serious damage to the spacetime continuum. :\
