Do drugs feel better than anything?

I've been taking drugs since I was 19. Ironically, I used to be one of those kids who swore alcohol for life. Now, I think I've consumed more alcohol and nicotine than any of my friends did in their teens. What I've found after long periods of sobriety is that even though sober life is preferable and stable, it in no way feels as good.

People keep saying "keeping yourself busy with exercise, work, etc.. will lead to feeling as good as drug". I call bs. Although they are healthier, they absolutely don't compare. I remember my first time taking hydrocodone in America after interestingly visting an escort. I can honestly say that feeling, even from a weak opioid was far superior to any pleasure I'd experienced in my life.

That feeling with opioids, coke, ecstasy, doesn't last and you'll be chasing the high but I still feel that maybe abstinence is not necessarily the best and dabbling once in a while is fine.

Drugs do not feel better than anything. I can name several things that feel MUCH better:

1. Being in love (and being loved in return)
2. That “runners high” type of feeling you get after doing hard work or working out (endorphins)
3. Standing in someplace in nature and just being absolutely swept away by the view, by the sheer majesty and grandeur of it
4. Standing under the night sky looking up at the stars realizing we are just specks on a ball of rock tumbling through space and feeling both very big and very small at the same time

I’m sure others can add more

IME Yes but it seems as though the pain equally matches the pleasure when using harder drugs daily. What goes up must come down its a personal decision you must make if that tradeoff is worth it to you.

I absolutely love runner's high. I'm addicted to it. I wish I could run every day without injuring myself, because I would.

Although I have to agree with Artie here 😂

But yeah, there are many things better than drugs. They just work differently, and give meaning to life. The best things in life are always free.

Drugs don't give life meaning, they take meaning away from life.

Being high on life can give you more total good feelings, you feel better most of the time. However, it can't give you the peaks which drugs will. With peaks come valleys, that's the thing.

Now, if you chase the peak moments that xtcgrrrl mentioned you can get even more good feelings which are not followed by a commensurate let down. And that's the real advantage.

Lotta work. Wish I wasn't so lazy.

"oxycodone and amphetamine are cool, but have you ever rode +200 km abroad in single day by fixed gear, all your own?"

taking molly produces ecstacy too, tho. But I don't care to begin comparing them, it'd be too vague and unconclusive.

Thought of another one! That hit of dopamine that I’m currently questing for this morning…I want it to come in the form of GETTING SHIT DONE. Since I’ve got ADHD, this is a tough one. For a few days now, I’ve had that maddening “I have so much to do; TOO much, which means I will not do anything at all” demon otherwise known as Executive Dysfunction. I’m like, “I want to do the thing. I ENJOY doing the thing. Just DO THE THING!” And I can’t do the thing…

I'm trying to get my opioid habit back. lol

I've been on subs for so many years now & they are so heavy & sedating for me, but they provide none of the good feelings or anything.
I've even had a chance to compare it again to hydrocodone & even though hydros are technically "weaker" than subs, they are much more cleaner feeling.
My depression & anxiety completely disappears on full agonists, but it doesn't on buprenorphine. And although I have to keep dosing full agonists every few hours, I kind of like it. Cause it means I'll get a boost of energy again every so often. With subs, I take it & then I'm just tired all fuckin' day & taking more doesn't really improve anything.

I don't' see anything wrong with using drugs as long as you're not destroying yourself on purpose with them.
I use drugs like meth & alcohol merely as "self destruction" drugs, where as drugs like opioids & cannabis are my "everyday functional" drugs.
it all depends on the person, their body chemistry & what ails them the most.

People act like living a "healthy" lifestyle is some bullet proof way to prevent any sort of ailment happening to you & it;s just not true.
Even healthy people end up sick, depressed, etc..

It should be a human right to take the drugs that help you feel better. I work harder & can get more done physically when my pain & depression is alleviated,
Society shouldn't be allowed to dictate if people can make themselves feel better or not, regardless of some set of subjective "morals" they have.

We're all gonna die in the end anyway. Might as well have fun & feel as comfortable as possible while we're here.

Now doing all these things while on drugs is also great. :p :p

Making an artistic piece (music, collages, film, whatever) and finishing it can also sort of give you a high.
It feels good to accomplish & finish something, then listen to it & be like ";damn, I put in all this work to make this & express this". It's rewarding.
Certainly not better than drugs IMO but it's still a pleasurable feeling.

One could say music is a drug though too.

set very small achievable goals

one big task = dopamine when completed, might take 6 hours so you give up halfway

So, instead, divide it up. Four small tasks, finsish one in an hour, the you get dopamine, can continue to task 2

One of the best/easiest adhd hacks

I don't have ADHD, but getting shit done is my substitute for smoking pot when I am on the wagon.

No - but they are adept at altering ones mood or reality when the conscious brain demands so. It's that old Dead Kennedys concept 'Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death'.

Drugs alone don't feel too good especially after some time but doing stuff which already feels nice by itself gets heavily potentiated (at least by my DOC, dissociatives). Imagine being in love 'on steroids' (not literally, obviously). The back side of this is that drug withdrawal can strip any pleasure from you (anhedonia).

But I'm curious about runner's high (as somebody who isn't very sporty I didn't really experience it yet). In theory it should be able to perfectly mimic the feelings of endorphins. Maybe we just haven't found the perfect drug for this.

Maybe for the first 5 minutes, but I can think of many things that are more fulfilling.

- Falling in love.
- Landing a great job.
- Spending time with friends & family.
- Pursuing a hobby that you love.
- A good night's sleep.
- A great meal.
- Making someone happy.
- Getting a clean bill of health from the doctor.
- Many, many more...

Drugs are just a quick fix that usually backfires in my experience.

Stay safe my friend,
Dreamflyer

it is suspected to have more to do with PEA and anandamide, tho, maybe endorphines too. I am no sure what is the current situation of scientific data.

High is real anyway tho
