Yes I'd say myth as well. Departing with DMT from something like an LSD trip to me feels like it continues seamlessly but the launch if from a 'higher altitude', at least that is how I would describe my experiences.
With 2C's like 2C-B, there were some visual themes that carried over into the DMT trip but generally I think that on top of other serotonergics DMT pretty much overrules other psychedelics in terms of intensity, so IMO it is not like 1+1=3 synergy but more like 3+3=5 or even less.
When you smoke or inject DMT, it is quite possible that you could be said to flood your serotonin receptors and there is limited competition or interaction from other serotonergics in your system. Compared to the intensity you were at before there is just so much more going on... but I do think that qualitatively there can be some change because of some modulation interactions I can't really explain.
Based on my experiences with 5-MeO-DMT and ketamine however I would say that there is synergy probably because there is no competition or dual action on the same receptors. The same thing would probably be true for other non-serotonergic drugs. Drugs like MDMA are more complex to discuss because they are serotonergic but not limited to 5-HT2A agonism to rely on effects like most psychedelics.
