I have to say I do think that being at the point where Kim actually comes to the White House and talks is a step in the right direction in terms of de-escalating. I think it's likely he's playing Trump in some way. However, it kind of seems like Kim is interested in NK becoming part of the larger world, like how China did. Maybe anyway.
I want to believe Trump has good intentions with this meeting and that it will lead to something good for the the North Korean people and the rest of the world but I doubt it. I believe his main intention was being the first and having bragging rights about being the first; not any long term goals. Kim gets to brag to his people that he finally tamed a US president since as far as the NK citizens are concerned the USA is a big bad evil that wants to blow them to dust.
While I believe Kim likes the idea of being a part of the global community that would mean giving up his status as a god which I doubt he'd be willing to do.
