Dirty tired feeling

Hey all,

I often experience a feeling that I can only describe as a "dirty tired" feeling. This is NOT sleepy tired. I'm perfectly awake. Caffeine helps somewhat, but not really. My mind feels somewhat cloudy sometimes, but other times razor sharp. The feeling does put me in a bit of a grouchy mood however. Perhaps the best way I can describe it is as a dirty tired feeling behind my eyes...

It's not chronic fatigue -- I have plenty of energy. Even in this situation, I can still go for a run.

I've tried the following, for extended periods, with no effect:
ALCAR
ginseng
maca
rhodiola
tribulus
epimedium
idebenone
vinpocetine

The following have a minor positive effect:
piracetam
AOR ortho-core
fish oil, about ten grams per day

Modafinil has a positive effect -- more than caffeine -- but ameliorates the problem only partially. I tried taking 300 mg once, and felt overstimulated and awake but still dirty. Deprenyl also has a postive effect, but again maybe only thirty percent relief.

I've had plenty of blood results taken, and all are within the normal range. Testosterone is within the normal range, about forty percent of the way between the bottom and top reference value.

I've had a polysomnogram -- sleep study -- and don't have sleep apnea. Didn't sleep that much in the study -- only four and a half hours -- but the study was otherwise normal.

I feel like my sleep quality is variable. Sometimes I'll wake up tired. Sometimes I'll wake up completely rested, and then get this feeling within two hours of waking up. Usually I'll wake up reasonably rested.

The feeling usually comes on quite suddenly, though not always.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what I might try or investigate? I'm at an end...

I'm starting to suspect an allergy. Occasionally the feeling will come on right after I sneeze.

Help me please :)

I'm working as a ski instructor, so getting plenty of exercise. Diet is a little below par, but when I'm in sydney I eat vegetables every day. Also take AOR's Ortho-core, which is a fantastic multivitamin.

Took pills once recently, but was on a four month break before that. Haven't been drinking much lately, but was drinking heaps in December and felt better than I do now.

Ok..

So..
I'm working as a ski instructor

I did this for two years... automatically, sick all the time LOL ;)

Diet is a little below par

How are you eating? What do you mean by " a little below par" ?

Took pills once recently, but was on a four month break before that

How "recently"? How'd it go? Did you have this same problem before you took them pills...
I am guessing E?

To me it just seems like you are human. Most people deal with the feelings you have everyday. Not everyone is energetic and wakes up refreshed everyday. I think you may be over anaylazing it a little bit where you could just try to tough it up. But for me i found that taking a walk everyday helps me a great deal. I also take about 8 grams of fish oil, B complex vitamin and multi.

So how's it going emotionally?

I have worked in the Health field for 20 years. (Natural foods and supplements). From observing myself and talking to customers, especially when all the tests come in normal range, there is an emotional cause. Low grade depression is so common amoung Americans that I would call it a normal condition. Psychlogically healthy individuals are becomming rare IMO.

So maybe you can take a look at this from the emotional viewpoint and discover something.

With all respect, this simply isn't true. I never used to feel like this. I didn't feel like this when I was at high school. It's started sometime in the last few years.

I take plenty of fish oil, a b-multivitamin and AOR's ortho-core, which you'll see is the best multivitamin around.

My point is not that i'm sleepy tired -- it's that i'll be fine then suddenly i'll have this dirty tired feeling, and find it hard to concentrate, hard to keep up conversations with people etc. That's not normal.

I had long-standing depression, which eventually changed into atypical depression i.e. with sleepiness, etc. I was successfully treated for that with aurorix in Nov 03 - Jun 04. Never looked back. I'm perfectly happy. Have plenty of physical energy -- even when I feel like this I can go for a long run. It's just the mental energy that's lacking. I have a great life... great girlfriend, my marks are superlative... I'm not depressed. But definitely an angle worth evaluating in most people....

I'm Australian btw :)

Thats what I was thinking. I feel this way often. I think its the stress of daily life.

VelocideX, I think I know precisley what feel you are getting. Is it very similiar to when you only get a very minor amount of sleep, say < 4 hours and have to work/do something that requires concentration directly after?

Perhaps although you seem to be sleeping correctly you aren't getting restful sleep? I'm not sure what the causes of this are, but might be an idea to see a sleep specialist?

If you suspect an allergy sould it have something to do with your sleeping conditions? What kind of mattress and pillow do you have? Is it made of man made fibres? Are you allergic to dust mites?

I wish there was some vitamin or supliment that can give me lots of energy but there is nothing better than opiates now

have you ever tried meditating? or possibly some halucioneginic drugs. Bodies are funny with how they mix the two parts of itself together... some things cant be fixed until everything is totally quiet and you could hear a pin drop... That is a calm mind, where thoughts and sight appear clear. So perhaps my good australian man, are facing a few blockages in your upper cerebral matrix. or in other words, you need to open up a few more chakras. I believe your consideration towards this is very good and i bet all you need is a good what for with some LSD... or just meditation and yoga, whatever excercise you prefer i guess.

Try this : 2 tablespoons in a glass of warm water 3x a day and call me in the morning.
