On the back of the reports of alleged spying by Facebook, Apple (AAPL) has responded by banning that application.
Facebook has been grappling with data privacy and misinformation scandals and has been struggling to get back in the good graces of investors, Wall Street, and legislators in Washington.
The social media titan is scheduled to report earnings after the bell on Wednesday, and CEO Mark Zuckerberg will take the spotlight as the public attempts to understand how the company is planning on dealing with its growing list of woes.

For up to $20 a month plus referral fees, the tech company had access to these participants? web browsing histories, locations, and even messages, videos, and photos exchanged through the instant messaging app on both Android phones and iPhones, according to a TechCrunch investigation.
The app was called ?Facebook Research? and through the VPN, the company was able to collect all of the data it needed. Facebook used beta-testing services Applause, BetaBound, and uTest and operated under the name ?Project Atlas? to mask the company?s direct involvement, according to TechCrunch.

Personally I dislike and avoid all social media. Bluelights the closest thing I have to any kind of social media.

I cant say I particularly care about the privacy issues of Facebook though. I mean why should I? People go on Facebook to willingly and happily share everything about their lives, then act horrified that a computer might have information about everything in their lives.

You can't have it both ways, do you care about your privacy or not? Cause you can't care about your privacy while happily publishing every part of your life for the world to see.

I know not every Facebook user uses it that way, but let's be honest, it's probably the majority who do. And it's them I'm talking about more than anyone.

I on the other hand am an introvert and do like my privacy and can't imagine telling the world my every action. Or going on Facebook to talk about myself, to other people, talking about themselves. Or engaging in one big echo chamber where we all agree with how right we are. So I just don't use it at all. Or Twitter. Or any of the others.

Facebook is too large and too popular of an entity for this to have any noticeable effect on it. I too choose not to use fb. Not because I care about my privacy any more than the next guy, but because it just doesn't appeal to me. Having said that, it would be nice to see Zuckerburg fall flat on his face in regards to this. But I just don't see it happening...

This is interesting I thought.
Facebook is a social networkingcompany that has acquired 77 other companies, including WhatsApp. ... Most of Facebook's acquisitions haveprimarily been "talent acquisitions" and acquired products are often shut-down. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has stated in 2010 that "We have not once bought a company for the company.

They bought Instagram and didn't shut it down, or really change it much (to my knowledge). They just wanted to cash in on it.

But yeah, Facebook is super sketchy. I stopped using it almost entirely (just to promote shows) years ago. I find it creepy and insidious, and I believe it has contributed substantially to the driving of wedges between people of this country. Others drove that wedge, but they were complicit, at the very least.

I stopped using it late summer of last year and just recently deactivated my account. I found it was affecting my personal life especially with my relationship I have with my gf. It’s weird how that can even be possible. But it’s real.
