Did I open my 3rd eye?

During a recent meditation session I started to pick up a natural sort of vibration to my body and flowing all around me. As this went deeper I started to see flashes of white light in time with this natural tempo that I was sharing with the environment. This was not being perceived by my eyes but was sort of just appearing in my head. Hard to describe.

Being deep in meditation I did not actually experience (for lack of a better term) these phenomena...but simply observed them from a detached perspective..as I would normally do during meditation..

This session felt deeper and more profound than any I've experienced before..but has left me confused...Its as if I am aware something important has happened but I am not certain as to what.

Anyone had similar experiences?..Has anyone actually ever found a lasting inner peace? or are the beneficial effects of meditation merely transient?

(No offense dude, but what crazy-stuff have you been reading?? Third eye, what the fuck? You have ---- 2 ----- eyes - look in the mirror if you don't believe me - It's been known for quite a while now, my friend - no big discovery!)

The third eye.. lol EVERYONE has it. how can you know know what it is...
lol

Anywho the third EYE is always open. like the other guy said the mind is what closes.

The third eye is open always. I used to be able to visualize objects well when I closed my eyes, but as i've gotten older that clarity has gotten weaker. There's this obsession with the third eye in new-age stuff and online.. people building a religion or belief system around it. It is important but it is just one part of your brain, it is not the be-all-end-all.

What you describe is probably more attributed to either cross firing of the hemispheres, a kind of momentary epilepsy/seizure, or something to do with Kundalini, or both. I've had flashes of white light before and it felt like I was being shocked. Who knows..

@OP Just wait till you start seeing fractals. :)

The third eye is actually not always open, but when it is, there are degrees of openness. You can force it open with psychedelics but... depending on the person, this can cause problems. The most balanced and powerful third eye opening will happen when the anahata (heart centre) is open, and in particular the higher heart (some people refer to this as a higher self). Without this heart opening, there will not be a stable communication between the upper chakras and the lower ones, and the person can be liable to be too ungrounded.

The most common place that people get stuck on their way to a stable third eye opening, is the visuddha centre (throat chakra). It's the mental body. It's also divided into two... the mundane mental body (every day stuff), and the higher mental body (the ability to abstract and engage in non-linear plane thinking). Seeing hallucinations is not a product of the third eye, but the throat. The third eye is about seeing through illusion, not creating it. You need the third eye to navigate (with intuition / right-brain potential, not logic) the upper realms. The throat is the basis by which you see these things, the third eye is what gives you discernment.

The greatest illusion of this world is the illusion of separation. If you had an experience of Oneness with the universe, experienced simultaneously through the heart and the third eye, then your third eye is open. If you are still relating to these visuals as "out there" and something you are experiencing as a separate entity, then you were experiencing a throat chakra manifestation. Still cool though.

If you want to open your third eye, you will have to research the antakharana. But that could get technical. Most people who do a lot of psychedelics in a spiritual way achieve kundalini naturally, without too much logical learning.

There have been theories that deep meditation can release psychedelic compounds in the brain, leading to extremely deep breakthrough meditative experiences. You may have been on the cusp of one such experience, and trust me, this phenomenon is very real. Not sure if it's spiritual, because I'm not altogether sure about spirituality as a real thing, but I believe in the validity of the metaphor of spirituality, and I'm sure this experience would fit well into that context.

Also, x-sun-x-moon, I don't need to point out how needlessly inflammatory your remarks are. In referring to the third eye, he's pointing to thousands of years of eastern philosophy. That doesn't make it technically correct, but the idea is certainly relevant to the human experience. Your pure existentialist critique is a valid perspective, but if that's your viewpoint, why are you wasting your time on a philosophy and spirituality subforum? I think you simply derive joy from beating up on people, which is sad.

The best thing you can do for your pituitary gland is consuming natural anti inflamatories to reduce calcification, and keeping the body in an alkaline state, because only the 3rd eye and liver receive direct unfiltered blood flow, and our blood is most healthy in an alkaline state.
The best way to do this is to eat turmeric/golden rod, and drink lime juice with water -
Which combined create the color red, Saffron red, this is how Buddhist dye their robes and the Hindu create the red dot or streak they put on their foreheads :-)

Green and gold are the colors of the solar plexus and heart chakras combined, which equal red the color of passion/instinct, yet this balance is compassion which is instinctual but also thoughtfull.

^ when ever I start catching frequencies of numbers, which is vey often lol I just realize that I am on the, correct path ;) If you wanted to bring up "luciferian deception", new age, would be near the top if my list. Just saying.

But yeah, I view things in daily life as coming in 5's - mind does Concept Creation, ego does thus Cause Effect, so material to experience a Reaction.
