The question is if I should do aome sort of detox before I enter a 6 month rehab program. The program is faith based and I am extremely fortunate to get in. They don't have any medical services. It's just a place to get your life back together and free from addiction. I've been an opiate user for 10 years. For the last 2 I've been on suboxone. Average 2-4 mg a day. 2 months ago I went 31 days without and it was not a good experience to say the least but not like hardcore opiate withdrawal. It took the full length to get my sleep back but still fatigued. It's been suggested I Goto a detox. I do have health insurance and am needing help from y'all on what to expect and what is suggested. Thank you for your time

I would detox before so you can drop the physical part before you get there. Subs are such a long kick it might not be very enjoyable to spend it all at a detox.

You may want to try it again yourself and see a doctor to explore medications to help with the withdrawls. The acutes and any resultant PAWS clears in under eight months for most people.

Here are some medications you may find helpful.

>Clonidine< DOSED EVER FOUR HOURS..

one of either
>NEURONTIN< >HERE< >HERE< >here<
OR >Lyrica<
OR >phenibut<

>A BENZO BUT JUST AT NIGHT<
>a nsaid<
>melatonin<
tylenol
Senokot S is a stool softener and laxative. If you do not want the laxative you can go for strait stool softenerDioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate.

(Opi Withdrawal) what is the best comfort meds for opiate w/d?

yes definitely 1000% do detox b4 rehab are u kidding me? i made the mistake a while back of going straight to rehab without detoxing from subs just like u and guess what ended up happening????? i could not take the pain of withdrawal while being in a fucking rehab with people i hated so i ended up leaving after a week and got back on dope. imagine being sick as shit from withdrawal while in group meetings all fucking day long lol thats what i went thru. that week detoxing in rehab was the worst. go to detox first man they will give u clonadine and vistoril and shit that u won't get in a god dam rehab. fuck rehab it aint shit.

Hey agpilot, thanks for sharing. I just wrote a longish post on similar theme. My advice is echoing the others; definitely detox first. I'd suggest inpatient if you can, but a strictly controlled out-patient setting will also work, though you may need to work harder.

I guess the problems with suboxone is the length of W/D. I found that it was acute for over a week, and then dragged on in decreasing intensity for several more weeks (probably 4-5). I recommend long tapers to all who can do it, personally, but if you've detoxed for a week or two, you will be a lot more ready to engage in rehab. Its difficult to be talking about drug use mconstantly whilst craving like a madman.

Good advice in general, but I question the use of laxatives in opiate withdrawal. You must be a sucker for punishment :D

Seconding clonidine in particular for opiate withdrawal/detox. I suggest loperamide too, in decreasing doses. I take it maybe once a week now having been sober from opiate addiction for over 3 years (fuck! time flies :)), about 20mg's and it helps to negate the mild PAWS and eternally damaged stomach and insides. In acute withdrawal, it does negate some of the physical symptoms (mainly chills, sweating and GI discomfort) but doesn't do much as far as mental cravings. That is, happily enough, entirely up to the user.

Very reason why I included the Dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinaten. A very good approach is to take this at first/only. Hydrate the system with the softener and an electrolytic intake of water and increase H20 in the proper place. Then I would think the awakening of the associated smooth muscle due to the opiate detox would do the job. As far as the "sucker for punishment".. yeah could be akin to giving birth.

I suggest loperamide too, in decreasing doses.
@op As with everything there are positives and negatives of every approach so I would research them and apply them to your individual situation. This can be a very positive approach, but it also can present obstacles.

Yes you need to detox before you go! Suboxone has a brutal withdrawl. Especially considering the length of time you have Ben on it. I was in a very similar position as far as sub dosage and length of use. I acutely withdrew for over 40 days and let me tell you it was just as bad as heroin. No sleep, running out of all my holes, depression, rage, ect. My best advice is to start tapering the sub now. Try to get down to at least a mg before you even consider starting the kick. If you do go to detox don't accept the sub taper they will try to do. It's pointless. Get them to load you up on comfort meds and benzos if you can pull it off.

My personal opinion is that "talk" rehab is pointless while your in withdraw. Wait until your feeling better before you enter the no medical supervision rehab. Good luck and don't let any so called "proffesionals" at the rehab or detox talk you into a bad plan the people here have way more of an idea of what's up I promise.

Definitely true. Loperamide is thought to prolong addiction, I believe. But in my experience, it has no central activity and helped to reduce cravings. YMMV. :)

I feel the same way. Faith based rehabs never worked for me. Behavioral rehabs are the best. You are so right about "professionals" that are just as sick as the patients as they were former patients themselves.

Yes detox before rehab. Rehab is often uncomfortable and they make you get up early, eat crappy food, and spend all day sitting in a chair while they try to find ways for you to drink the koolaid.

Just be wary of all the information you are getting. You know what is right for you in the end. If what they are saying is not working for you, then just use the rehab as a time away from your DOC. Be wary that most faith based rehabs do not address mental health problems (which is one of the things that causes people to use when they get out...the real problem is not addressed)
